Ya know, I love all the seasons, they each have their own special blessing to offer but MAN...FALL is my MOST favoritist time O' YEAR. The feel of the air, the COLD, crisp mornings, the falling leaves, cooking comfort meals again and the SMELL of Aligator juniper burning in the woodstove! I ask, do it GIT any BETTERER?!?!

My favorite is Spring. Beginning of t-storm season,ight be Winter, but SE Texas has too few real winter weather events, and 50ºF ( 10ºC) with a raw wind and cloudy skies as a daytime high is no big thrill. Plus I worry about the freezes and my citrus.

Fall, well, I hate the driving to and coming home from work at twilight dawn & dusk. But, there is college football, Capitol One Bowl Week in December and the holidays.


I hated Summer in Dallas, as two momths without rain and 100ºF (38º) was too much, but HOU gets rain in the Summer (except not this Summer, excluding Dolly, Edouard and Ike), and if my wife's "Popo" (grandfather) rebuilds the place at Jamaica Beach, we'll have a fun place to swim and fish.

I'll take 10 degrees over 100 degrees any day of the week. So I'm a winter guy.

Ill agree with that. Ill take anything under 50 before Ill take anything over 75. I love snow (and miss it). Im definitely a winter guy.

People who live in warm climates want/love cold and vice-versa for cold climates. I would LOVE Florida's temps all year round...for a while .

I love Spring the best. Everything starts growing again.
Dennis, I'll have to admit that I love cooking that comfort food (I make chicken potpies and homemade jam this past weekend) and I love the crisp smell of the air. When I have to pull out or trim back all my wonderful plants, I feel a little sad.

Ok, ok so I'll make some hot Tom and Jerry's and sit by Dennis' fire for a while.

Temps in the 50's, 60's and 70's are my favorite.

Hey Dennis - I'm with you on this opinion.

I get so excited when it gets colder. I prefer baking/roasting over grilling out. I prefer shopping for winter sweaters and cords over summer outfits (which I find so boring!).

I just seem to come alive once it gets cold.

And when it snows......LOL!!!! I do think I'll always love snow.......I've never dreaded or hated it!

Snow reminds me of my childhood, and all the great fun we had, growing up in the country in Nova Scotia. Pond hockey, sledding, jumping off the house into piles of snow, and best of all, building snow forts on days when school was cancelled. It was a happy time... No video games, no MP3 players, just you and your friends making stuff to do.

I agree, Fall is the best time of the year weather wise.

I made beef stew tonight since it's getting chilly.

I like to leave the oven door half open after I turn off the heat.

And I may yet make a batch of homemade cookies tonight.....wanted to earlier but you don't want to keep opening and closing the oven door when you are roasting beef stew.

I also like to simmer potpouri in a small saucepan. The type you find in trendy gift shops, it comes with cinnamon stix and small round red balls. I'm not sure what all this stuff is but it does make my house smell good.

Have to laugh though, my vegetarian daughter thought it was a side dish I had made just for her but her sister set her straight - oh don't eat that cr** mom's making in the pan - it's awful!

I laughed because you don't eat it! LOL

These are all the things I do when it's cold again.

Right now I'm wearing my down mules/slippers too. If you haven't ever tried on a pair, you HAVE to! You can find them in wilderness outfitter type stores but I just order them online from Altrec or REI. They are so warm!

Mary, can I get the recipe for your beef stew? Mine just never seems to turn out good.

I think I'll do some baking this weekend. I'll make some chocolate chip cookies and peanut butter cookies and freeze them for Thanksgiving when my kids come home.

It was 35° when I got up this morning.

I generally start baking right after halloween. This year its a bit different. This is what Ill be cooking to kick of my baking season:
Its for a Ronald McDonald House I am doing this Friday, and its 100% Halloween themed.

OMG, those are great!!
Can I just use my peanut butter cookie recipe?

They are VERY easy to make.
cookie dough
large bag of Almonds
1 tube red decorating gel (or melted red sprinkles)

You can probably get how to make them by the picture.
