http://www.wtkr.com/Global/story.asp?S=9227278A pet snake may be to blame for the death of the owner's wife. He came home around 11:30 Tuesday night to find Amanda Ruth Black, 25, dead in her Maracas Arch home.
Someone explain to me why anyone would want a python for a pet?

She should have kept a knife in her pocket with that thing around.

When you play with fire, you get burned. You play with a python, you get killed. Good thing T-REX isn't still around.

That is either the perfect crime or exactly what they think it is.

I find myself asking the same question - why would anyone want a snake for a PET?
I tend to say outloud, at least a dozen times a week, that we have the best pet in the world - a gentle, loving, loyal, devoted, smack dab next to you just about 24/7, Golden Retriever. But of course now I'm a major dog lover. And I always was a cat lover.......but a snake?
Sad story though.

My mind went there too.
I have no problem with people having pet snakes, I think snakes are cool, although I wouldn't keep one at least not that big. We did find one in our back yard that was full grown and no bigger than a pencil and kept it for a week.

But its a pet owners choice what they bring into their own home. Its just a sad and rare story, dogs bite and cause serious injuries and death and we still have them as pets. I don't think she should have tried to give it medication all alone, thats what probably pissed it off. Poor lady that must have been a horrible death if true.

I've have a cottonmouth in my backyard meet their end courtesy of a shovel, and I think I once saw a coral snake under a neighbor's bush, but avoided the temptation to get down and take a closer look.
I did once unexpectedly come across a long, slender brown snake while mowing my lawn. My well planned strategy of jumping in the air and screaming like a girl worked perfectly, as I never saw a snake move away so fast.

Tiger pythons can be very mean at some times....What I do see is that tiger in the picture cannot be 13 feet...Judging but the cage and the heat rock it can be no more than 7 feet and with very little girth...This snake could kill a small child but a Adult woman would be able to over power it..Not unless she went into heart attack or something like that...They didn't mention any bite marks...Maybe someone did kill her and released the snake to make it look like it...Will see what happens..

Snakes get a bad reputation. I think snakes are cool animals. They are stigmatized.

I agree they are cool animals. I do not think they are good pets though.

I have handeld them all my life...I have never considered them as pets though...They will bite for no reason at all...But I do think they are very cool and should be treated as any other creature that is in the wild...Never see people chasing rabbits with shovels...All snakes will run (slither) from you...You should run the other way as well..

The snake did what is in it's nature to do - the fault goes to the people who insist on having these types of animals for pets.
