Romance in the Cold (a Weather/Romance story)

#1 Postby therock1811 » Sat Oct 25, 2008 11:41 pm

Well folks I never thought I would say this, but, I have my own Weather/Romance story to share with you tonight. I do not yet have a picture to share but, I will very, very soon, I promise! :)

It begins a couple months ago. Just before Ike hit the tri-state area, I met this 18 year old girl named Doris on a myspace-like site called myyearbook. (NOTE: She's still a senior in HS but, as long as she's legal nobody will say anything) She lives, ironically, in the same trailer park I used to live in from 1991-1996. Anyway, at first we just talked through there. But just after Ike hit, I got the idea that I wanted to meet her. So when she was at the library on US 42 here in Florence the Sunday AFTER Ike hit, I went down to see her. We hit it off right away. As the weeks went on and I was faithful in coming to see her, I came to like her more and more.

Two weeks ago, I was headed to Newport, Kentucky to the levee. I believe it was a Friday night. She was off school and about to go to Dayton, KY to visit family and friends there. So we met up and rode to Covington, where I had to cross to Cincy really quick and she had to go to Dayton. However, she agreed that if nothing was going on after 7pm, she'd meet me at the Levee. Which is exactly what happened. I went to the levee to Gameworks which is what I usually do on Friday nights, and about 7:00, there she was as I was eating dinner at Jax grill. So we spent the next 3 hours talking, at which point the subject turned to discussion about her friends' thoughts of me(her friends thought we should date, more on that in a minute).

I told you all of that background so you'd understand today/tonight's events. I woke up about 3:25pm to a message on myb from Doris. She was going to the mall and wanted to know if I would come with her. I told her yes, hurried to get ready and made my way to the library. So from 4:00 to 7:00, we talked and walked around the mall. We sat down at Coffee Beanery so she could paint her nails. While we were sitting there, my friend (and my senior prom date) Nathalie came up to us. The three of us talked for about 90 minutes, at which point Nathalie had to leave. Well, that left me and Doris alone where the subject again turned to dating. We may have spent 30 minutes talking about that, I'm not sure because we lost track of time, and subsequently...we missed our bus out of the mall at 9! We went out, but the bus had left by this time, at which point, we had nothing to do and nowhere we could go since the mall was closed. Once the subject came up again, she actually told me that she was leaning toward saying yes to dating me...

Now, at 9:00, it was COLD. It was 46 but wind chills made it feel more like the upper 30s at times, so I stuck my hands in her sleeves while she did the same to mine. That didn't help, I still froze, in fact to the point where my teeth chattered. At that point...she looked around, and she said "If you wanna kiss me, do it". So we sat there and kissed in the cold and I actually didn't feel the cold air after that! We're going to be going out Friday, hopefully to the USS Nightmare where we'll hang out. (Normally on Fridays, I go to football games if they are at Boone, however I think this is a perfectly legitimate reason to blow that off, for a girl I like - but, that may be the backup plan if she decides not to do the Nightmare, or we might hit the Levee shops and restaurants)

Anyway, so that's my tale. It proves that romance can be found anywhere...from rain, to wind, to cold! If not for being cold, and if not for deciding to see her after Ike hit, I might still have to consider myself single today! So, thanks Ike and thank you High Pressure for bringing the cold winds that brought me and Doris closer together!
