It was a coordinated attack in seven different places in Mumbai.

MUMBAI, India November 26, 2008 (AP) Police say several people have been wounded in a series of attacks by terrorist gunmen at seven sites in Mumbai, including two luxury hotels.

"The terrorists have used automatic weapons and in some places grenades have been lobbed, the encounters are still going on and we are trying to overpower them," Roy says.

The gunmen attacked two luxury hotels, the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus station in southern Mumbai and Leopold's restaurant, a Mumbai landmark.

Updated information is that 78 people haved been killed and around 200 haved been injureed.

MUMBAI, India - Terrorists armed with automatic weapons and grenades attacked at least seven sites in Mumbai on Wednesday and were holding Western hostages at a hotel, authorities said. Police and Indian media reported at least 80 people were killed and 250 wounded.

The gunmen targeted luxury hotels, a popular restaurant, a police station, a crowded train station and other sites in India's financial capital in attacks that began late Wednesday and continued into Thursday, police and witnesses said.

Sounds like Americans or Brits could be some of the hostages.

I'd guess these terrorists are backed by rogue elements of Pakistan's ISI, their equivalent of the CIA.

The U.S. State Department said in a statement that all Americans are believed not being among the dead or injured.But they dont know if among the hostages still retained by the terrorists are Americans.

The Taj Hotel is burning and that is one of the places where there are hostages being held.

This is a horrible situation. 80 dead is a lot. Hopefully the death does not climb. Condolences to anyone who lost loved ones in this horrible terrorist attack.

If the ISI or any official Pakistani government organ is linked to this, there will be war. There was very nearly war in 2001 after the attack on the Indian parliament. Keep in mind Pakistan and India are heavily nuclear armed so....

Yeah. I personally think it was / is just rogue elements and not anything official. I have doubts either side would use nukes over it, even in the event of an all out war.

The latest goverment report is that 4 terrorists haved been killed and 9 haved been arrested.

BREAKING NEWS=At CNN the Pentagon correspondant reported that U.S. intelligence are looking at the possibility that a islamic group tied to the Kashimir area may be responsible.
