We just got back from a week long cruise into the western Caribbean. Our route was right through the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. Out there where there is 10,000 feet of water below you. It was cold and windy. Seas were at 14'. Last Thursday night was a very rough. We were on the Carnival Fantasy.....big ship. We never anticipated that much motion. Waves coming in large swells slammed the ship all night long. The entire top of the ship was closed due to strong winds. Water was sloshing around in the toilet. We know this because we spent a lot of time face down with dry heaves. Finally we sought help from the ships doctor who was steady handing out some sort of medication that basically knocked you out. Not fun. There were seasoned cruise veterans with dozens of sailings that told us it was the worst they had ever experienced.

After having experienced that....I can only begin to imagine what it's like out there during a hurricane.
