I recorded it and caught some of it on a TV in the school cafeteria I work at. Many students booed when he was sworn in. Sigh........I proudly wore my Obama Tshirt and bin. And purchased Obama cookies at a local bakery too.

Okay, time for everybody to switch places! Everyone in the "I hate the President and everything he does, no matter what" group please trade places with the "The President can do no wrong, no matter what" group. This change will remain in effect for at least the next 4 years. Thank you, that is all. ;)

Benediction at Obama 's inauguration, Rev. Joseph Lowery: 'Lord, in the memory of all the saints who from their labors rest, and in the joy of a new beginning, we ask you to help us work for that day when black will not be asked to get in back, when brown can stick around... when the red man can get ahead, man; and when white will embrace what is right. That all those who do justice and love mercy say Amen. Say Amen' ...

WASHINGTON, Jan 20 (Reuters) - A senator collapsed at an inauguration lunch for Democratic President Barack Obama in Congress on Tuesday, and some identified the victim as ailing Massachusetts Senator Edward Kennedy.

CNN and other networks said they were seeking more information about the incident. Kennedy, the brother of the late President John F. Kennedy and one of the Senate's most respected Democrats, is battling a life-threatening brain tumor.

Kennedy and Byrd stricken at Obama lunch

Ted Kennedy was taken out of the Statuary Hall luncheon after suffering an apparent seizure -- a few minutes after Sen. Robert Byrd was removed in his wheelchair under the supervision of medical personnel.

"He was there when the voting rights act passed….so I would be lying to you if I did not say that right now a part of me is with him, I think that’s true for all of us," Obama told dignitaries gathered at his Congressional lunch . "It’s a joyous time but it’s also a sobering time..My prayers are with him and his family."

White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, who attended the lunch, said he had heard Kennedy was "doing better," citing Kennedy's fellow Massachusetts Democrat John Kerry.

House Chaplain Daniel Coughlin, who observed Kennedy's treatment by paramedics, said he appeared to be conscious and "responding" to treatment.

Rep. Pete Sessions (R-TX) said Kennedy's hand began shaking and he appeared to have "seizure" or "a stroke" and was almost immediately helped by emergency personnel.

Byrd was conscious and had been having trouble eating, according to a witness.

Kennedy, who underwent brain cancer surgery last year, was taken to the Rayburn room after suffering an apparent convulsion before being rushed to a hospital, House officials told our Patrick O'Connor.

A police radio picked up a call for paramedics to help someone stricken with a seizure, O'Connor said.

Well I hope the Republicans give President Obama a honeymoon as long as the Democrats gave President Bush.

It doesn't matter for who did you vote, watching Democracy at its best is extremely gratifying.

Nature will take its course. Both men should have resigned awhile ago. Senator Byrd should not have run foe re-election.

Easy for a twenty something to say, but elections have consequences. As a 64 year old I want the stocks in my retirement account to go up and my taxes to go down.

Ladies and Gentlemen we are indeed watching history as it unfolds. The staff knows it is often difficult to keep political and personal comment out of the discussion when we are witnessing a historical political event. However some have chosen to bring those types of comments into this thread. Let's stop those types of comments or we will be forced to remove the thread from the board. We do not normally allow a thread like this to be posted, but since it is history in the making we are trying to give those that care to a chance to discuss it-WITHOUT THE POLITICS.

Thanks in advance for your cooperation. This is the only warning which will be issued concerning this. Further infractions will result in consequences. If we continue to have problems the thread will be removed without notice. There are plenty of other sites available to get into the political comments.

I pray the good Lord gives Obama and his Cabinet the wisdom to do what is right for America. I am proud to be an American on days like today when the transition of power is without incident. Although I didn't support Obama I'm behind him now. Good luck Mr President and may God Bless America.....MGC

The president has no control over the economy. The idea that he does is only a myth. They do have some control over taxation, but only insofar as they can pressure congress to deliver what they want in a tax bill.

Hurakan is right. We are extremely fortunate to live in a nation where the transfer of power takes place peacefully every 4 years, regardless of the political affiliation of the incoming and outgoing presidents. That simply doesn't happen in most nations.
