http://buzz.yahoo.com/buzzlog/92681?fp=1So blowing a kiss to your mom is misbehaving? This administrator should be beaten repeatedly for ruining this kids life.
I kissed my girlfriend after I got my diploma, perhaps I should go to jail for it.

OMG!!! Administrators gone wild!!!

I can't even post on this site what I told my assistant principal after graduation while waiting to pick up our dipolmas and turn in our gowns. This is way way way over the edge!!!!

That has to be one of the stupidest reasons to deny a student a diploma.
I understand rules are rules, but this is ridiculous!

I highly doubt this is a written rule.
I've dealt with school adminstrators, princpals, superintendents, they like to assert their autority wherever they can. This is some miserable you know what on a power trip, nothing more, I hope this goes to court, add mental anguish to the lawsuit.

It would be interesting to see the school's side of this story.
That said, nobody's life is ruined. They didn't actually keep him from graduating, they just kept his diploma during the ceremony.

Nice catch. What is the US coming too if an innocent "blowing of a kiss" a Mom or Dad's way is enough to hold back an on-stage diploma? We all know parent(s) deserves the kiss for getting the student to this milestone.
The principal reminds me of Nurse Diesel behavior in the classic comedy "High Anxiety". And if the graduate had chosen to whistle instead, we'd always have this infamous Bacall line: ""You know how to whistle don't you, Steve?"
Good for you graduate. Move on in life in peace and hold your head high.

This is so stupid. The principal needs to get a life and work to improve the education system of the US.

I was told during rehearsal (of graduation ceremony) that the graduation ceremony was for the parents, not the students. No excessive cheering, misbehavior, obscene gestures or even beachballs were permitted or the principal was going to withhold our diplomas at the ceremony. Did we listen and act like adults at the ceremony?
hmmmmmm. .. . ..
No.
If I remember there were at least two beach balls going around, lots of excessive cheering, no gestures (that I saw anyway) and some misbehavior. . . and everyone got their diplomas. . .
and university graduation, . .. well. . .. I won't go there. . .

My friend did a back flip off the stage after he got handed his diploma at our graduation, had he did that at this school he probably would've been taken out by a sniper.

*slaps that school superintendent upside her head*
I think that was sweet blowing his mom a kiss. He seems to have alot of love and respect for his mom to do that in front of alot of people.

"...one (angry parent) threatened to sue..."
What exactly are the damages?

Don't know but perhaps " (in)voluntary negligence in contributing to bad reputation of school system"?
Here is what a student/parent said:
"But parent Mary Wire told the assembly she believes respect goes both ways. "In fact, my daughter's comments about the days before graduation, the days of rehearsal, she came back saying, 'Mom, what we experience is, if you do this, this is what will happen, if you do this, this is what will happen.' There was no sense of, "What do you guys think? You guys have done this hard work. We're celebrating you. What would you like this graduation to look like?''

My son's High School Graduation was conducted as a half ceremony half party thing followed by an all night alcohol free bash put on by the Service Clubs of Sierra Vista. The UofA Commencements always feature the infamous flying Tortillas.
