A post in another thread prompted my question. When does school start in your area? I just did a quick search of several districts around here and the four that I checked all go back on August 24th. That seems early to me, but I remember being shocked in past years at some areas of the country that start even earlier than that.

As I mentioned in the flu thread on August 10.In Puerto Rico,we start much more early than in the U.S.mainland.

St. Petersburg College classes begin on August 24th. (not counting down. haha)

In Texas I think you will find almost all public schools start on August 24th. This is now madated statewide unless the TEA has given a district a waiver, which isn't being done much these days, I don't think. I remember when the kids were going back on August 12th or so, very early. Back in the dark ages when I grew up we started after Labor day.

The students come back the 19th here. I have already come back, but am contractually obligated to do so on the 13th.

Public school teachers report this coming Monday, Aug. 4 and the students report Aug. 11. Dang, that is way too early.

My sister goes back to high school on August 10th, college starts the 17th.

I've never started school any later than about August 20th even when I was much younger.

I tought that Puerto Rico was way ahead from the U.S. mainland but I see that in many places it starts very early.

My kids start august 24th.... and I remember in the past they have started as early as the 11th of august... thats just too early...When I was in school, up north, we started after Labor day....

My sis starts August 5th I think my mom said? They moved, so the schedule is different.

Year around schools typically go a lot earlier than regular schools, too.

in canada (Ontario at least) its the day after LaboUr Day so that will be September 8.

When I was in school, they started in Labor Day and eventually school would start as early as mid August. Crazy.

Here in Biloxi/Gulfport... classes start as early as August 3rd.

Teachers report Monday...and my daughter still doesn't have a job. She is supposedly in a field (math and science) that has a shortage of qualified/certified teachers and was always told she'd have no problem getting a job. I guess they're giving the math & science positions to those who majored in p.e.

Here in Polk County, we go back Aug 24, first day of school. I have a meeting every year a few days before the start of schools, First day of school is always is 2 or 3 days after that meeting .

Florida passed a law I believe a few years ago that said school could start no earlier than the 20th of August. Something about the summer work force being hurt by schools in Florida starting back before the summer tourism season had ended. Like some have said schools in the north tend to start either late August or early September. In years before the legislation was passed schools in my area of Florida started as early as August 3rd.

Yikes. Sorry about that.

Some are already back in Phoenix. Most begin sometime around the 10th to 17th of August.
