Bleh...that pretty much sums this week up for me. Two of the closest people to me, one being my gf and the other my best [girl] friend are both having issues. Sucks when you can't do anything about it.

For starters, my friend has been having chest pains off and on for a while now and is getting it checked out ATM...she has already had an echocardiogram (she explained it is basically an ultrasonde of your chest...because I was like "a wha?") and it came back clean, but the doc scheduled an MRI to double check. I havent gotten a text back from her, so assume she is still at the college medical center getting her MRI done. Hopefully it comes back clean as well.



Then there is my gf...oh goody. She has also been having chest pains that started earlier this week...along with rapid heart beat, shortness of breath...says it feels like something is just crushing her chest. I tried to get her to go get it looked at (one thing I dont play around with is pains that cannot be explained) but she didnt want to cost her mom money. In a way, I can see where she is coming from...her mom only recently got her job back and they dont get insurance back until sometime in Sept I believe. On the other hand, with those symptoms, it is something I thought she really, really needed to get looked at.

Her mom at first thought maybe it was her birth control pills (first batch she's ever taken, started them on July 5th). Well, her mom apparently called the doc finally today and they said if it happens again, she needs to go to the ER, no questions asked, and get a chest scan and everything. The not so fun part? Her chest is hurting again and her pulse is racing again...so, Iono.

The hospitals have to take you if you don't have health insurance. There may be some program that she will be able to qualify for. Get her there ASAP!

Now a word about chest pains:

Anyone experiencing chest pains, especially a crushing type pain accompanied by shortness of breath and/or sweating, no matter how young they are, needs to stop what they are doing and IMMEDIATELY, and I mean IMMEDIATELY, call 911.Do NOT hesitate and do NOT wait for the pain to go away!!!!

I echo the comments above. With those symptoms, she needs to get to the hospital as soon as possible. She can pay them a little each month if she has to, but you don't play around with symptoms like that!

Her mom took some type of pain killers earlier that prevent her from driving, so they are going to go first thing in the morning. I would prefer it tonight (or that matter, when she first started having the pains)...if I was there I'd drive her myself (though that'd be a little illegal, since I don't have a driver's license). Funny, I drive federal gov't humvee's around all the time, yet I still have to go to DMV to take the test for my civilian license?

As far as my friend goes, they took her MRI and sent her home...I dunno if that means they didn't find anything, or if they have to still look over the images.

More than likely they still need to look over the images unless there was a radiologist immediately available.

Yeah, she had to go to a nearby college, because the hospital didn't have an MRI machine.

When I had mine done on my knee, I went to a hospital and the lady even showed me the images of everything...it was really cool seeing how my knee looked from that perspective and she said nothing was wrong with my knee, so.
