1) I will have a cup of coffee in the morning and read my PAPER newspaper like I used to, before the Web.

2) I will eat breakfast with a knife and fork and not with one hand typing.

3) I will get dressed before noon.

4) I will make an attempt to clean the house, wash clothes, and plan dinner before even thinking of the Web.

5) I will sit down and write a letter to those unfortunate few friends and family that are Web-deprived.

6) I will call someone on the phone who I cannot contact via the Web.

7) I will read a book... if I still remember how.

8) I will listen to those around me and their needs and stop telling them to turn the TV down so I can hear the music on the Web.

9) I will not be tempted during TV commercials to check for email.

10) I will try and get out of the house at least once a week, if it is necessary or not.

11) I will remember that my bank is not forgiving if I forget to balance my checkbook because I was too busy on the Web.

12) Last, but not least, I will remember that I must go to bed sometime... and the Web will always be there tomorrow!

Sign me up!!!! I need it. Hubby would attest to that.

Read an actual newspaper again?!!! Forgot how to do that!

Eat my breakfast at the kitchen table, with the actual paper in hand? Again, forgot how to do that! Eating glazed donuts at the pc is difficult. You hold the sticky donut in your non-typing hand.......if I can manage that, I think I can go back to my am kitchen table routine.....

Funny thread! And so true.

I think anyone here with over 500 posts in the past 6 months needs to step away from the keyboard and follow this plan! Myself included, of course.

Been there and tried it. Last spring I forced myself to stay off the web for 7 days. It was actually like quitting smoking folks. Very very hard to do. I did several of things that were posted above - like get out of the house - read a book - clean house .... In all serious it was a difficult thing to do - but after a week I knew I was doomed - been back on the net ever since LOL!

I've never tried cutting back, say I should, but never quite do it. I skip the internet while out of town though - does that count? LOL And after a day or two, I find that I don't miss it as much as I thought I would. But when you're home and that pc is staring out you, turned off, you just *have* to sit down for just a *few minutes* and before you know it, an hour or two goes by. And there you have it. The problem is - THERE'S A COMPUTER IN THE HOUSE!!!!! We said years ago, the computer was here for the kids, to do homework, print papers for school. Trouble is I'm on it more than they are, at times.
