What treasures are in your attic?Everyday folk discovering colossally valuable collectors' items amid everyday junk has been the lifeblood of antiques shows for years, but it's not every day you see a real-life gold-in-the-attic tale play out on eBay.
Last week, North Carolina eBay user lace_thongs35 thought she was putting up an everyday, 80s-era Nintendo Entertainment System (together with five games) up on the popular auction site. But less than an hour after the first bid, the price was over $6,000 -- and on Wednesday, when the auction closed, the final selling price topped $13,000.
Why? Not the console itself, but one of the games bundled with it -- a deeply obscure 1987 release called Stadium Events, a highly sought-after collectors' item. But it wasn't even the game itself that was worth the bulk of the money -- it was the original cardboard box, which collectors value at a breathtaking $10,000. Fewer than 10 complete copies of the game are thought to exist, and retro gaming aficionados consider it one of the hardest-to-find NES games ever made.
Bet you're wishing you hadn't let Mom throw out your Nintendo collection now, eh?
I don't have this game, but I still have my old NES. Maybe I ought to check out some of my old games and see if they're worth anything. Wow.

Oh! Oh! I'm only 19 and I know what an Atari is...I have one sitting in my room with Pong, Pitfall, Tunnel Runner, and like 40 some other games...and a bunch of controllers (including the one for pong).

The price is in part because of a rare NES game called Stadium Events. Here is the list of Holy Grail of video games.

I still have a SNES and a number of games. No intention of selling it yet though. I do occasionally play it, and it still works perfectly.

At this point, if someone actually bought this game as-is at, say, a flea market for that price, it goes without saying that they'd have scored a huge find. With 300+ games in my possession and over 10 consoles (functioning), I really wished I had games this rare...
...but I don't.

Definitely adding this to my memory files of things to look for at garage sales.
Its that time of year again where there will be tons. I remember my mom tried
to sell our old Atari a few years back at our yard sale with no luck. Boy I would love to have
that cheesy game in my possession.

I just don't get it. No matter how rare, how can a stupid NES game be worth so much? This is unbelievable. It's gone from $500,000 to $700,000 in just the past 20 minutes!! (and it's still got over 10 hours to go!)
I need to hit some garage sales and Goodwill stores. That kind of money would solve my financial woes from this wonderful economy and pay off all my debts, with some change leftover.
