My wife told me today that walmart is doing something new. Now everybody has to be trained in all over the store. For ex if you work in toys then you might have to work in the dairy or frozen. How would you feel if the person who was working in dairy is now changing your oil in your car?? But I know what's going to happen just like has been for years they take someone give them a list of stuff to do and them it has to be done or esle with NO training. Think the lines are long now just wait...hehehehehe.

It must be a store-specific thing...? I work part-time in the pharmacy at Wal-Mart and no one
has told me I'm gonna be changing tires....yet...??

My son works full-time at a Wal-Mart store near here; he was hired during conversion to a "superstore'" Wally World, and has been working dairy for the past nine months.
He WANTS to work plainclothes security (shoplifters are the specialty); he's 21, and looks innocuous enough to pull it off. BTW, he has NO experience in a garage...NONE.

Amen to THAT! My son's store switches his working hours all over the clock, and staggers his days off. He says that's how they impress upon him that "they own" him.
I have to remind him that, in this economy, he should thank God he HAS a full-time job; too many in his age-group don't. Besides, at his age I was a Metro STL police officer; talk about changing hours, long days when I drove patrol all night, yet had to appear at "morning" Court, try to catch some sleep, then went out again within four hours?

Sounds like a meteorologist's schedule - working 24/7, days off change each week, rarely get holidays off.

I seriously doubt that Wal-Mart is going to make a sales clerk into a mechanic, though. But what's wrong with a sales clerk in electronics helping out a customer in another department if no one else is available? It's good to see that they're doing some cross-training into different areas of the store.

Well here the problem with that . Everybody is on pay grades 1-7. Let say you work in dept that is a pay grade 2 and making $7.95 per hour but then one day your told to work in another that is a pay grade 5 and the avg person in this dept makes $12.32 that's what makes it unfair . A lot people have gone to the store manger saying they want that pay for the dept if not take them off for that day. Now schedule I went in to talk to my wife and saw someone I know that works there they worked 10pm-7am but the computer put them back to work that seem day at 11am that morning that's 3 hours of sleep!!! They have done this to my wife also close the dept down at 1am but have to be back in at 6am.

You are 100% correct!!Matter in fact in some states you have to be food certified to work in the deli. The store manger have said he wants 65% of the people in his store certified. Also my mother works in fabric and crafts and she just got done watching the paint video(how to mix paint) and she will start training on it next week.Week before that they trained her cashiering.A another guy I use to work with over in dairy is now in TLE getting his certification but he is still listed in dairy and works there 3 days of the 5 days. His manger told him he will be a "back up" if someone called out.BUT the kicker is no one will get extra money for the extra work. The mangers say its extra "hours" to me 2-3 hours will not make a differents on there pay check after taxes.
