Bastardi On "The Colbert Report"

Honestly, I did not know where the proper place for this topic was, so I just planted it in here. Bastardi was a guest on Colbert's talk show tonight on Comedy Central, along with (I think) a climatologist from the UN, and they were debating global warming with Colbert throwing in jokes constantly. Ill post the link in here when Comedy Central uploads it, I just wanted to post this here. Sorry if I posted this in the wrong place, or if it should not have been posted at all.

What qualifications does a meteorologist have to debate climate-change against a climatologist? You can be as smart as you want but I feel scientists that study that field are more qualified than meteorologists. It's a shame that the general public mostly hear and trust meteorologists in TV giving their OPINIONS about the subject like we saw in the Colbert Report with the CNN meteorologist.

For that matter what qualifications do people like Al Gore or a bunch of Hollywood's effete have in telling us about Climate Change? I don't know about now but when I got my degree in Met one of my core courses was a course in Climatology. A forecaster needs to know the climatology of an area if they want to be good at it. To say a Meteorologist shouldn't be debating climate change with a Climo person is being rather elitist and off the mark. I've been following the Climate Change issue since it first appeared and daresay that I know enough about to be able to know what's going on.

I understand your point but a person that studies the climate should know more about it than a person that studies the weather. That's my opinion. The general public may be confused about it but they're not the same thing.

I'd be willing to wager that Bastardi knows as much about the climate as many climatologists and certainly more than 99.9% of bloggers, actors, news anchors, and politicians who have no problems telling people their opinion on earths incredibly complex climate.

You tell them RL3AO.....what really disturbes me about the American people is how willingly they will listen to the opinion of a celebrity. How gullible....Most celebs are dunces IMO. I don't recall what show Bastardi was on a while ago but he clearly won the debate against a pro warmer. Poor gal just could not explain why the Medieval Warm Period was warmer than today. When we humans can grow subsistance crops on Greenland like the Vikings did a thousand years ago I'll start to worry......MGC

Please explain to me how someone can study the climate without knowing what all certified mets know. The weather and climate are somewhat inter-related from what I have learned over the 58 years I have been on this earth. I'm sorry but I don't think your argument holds water.

I think this is a fair analogy. A regular physician knows a good deal about the human heart, but a cardiologist has a better understanding.

Most meteorologists know a good deal about climate, but a climatologist just knows a big more or has a larger understanding overall.

It is in fact climo is an INTRO course here.
