My nephew

Last night I got the worse news I could imagine. My 5 year old nephew was diagnosed as having a brain tumor yesterday. He is having another MRI as I type this to try and delineate the area fully. They are performing surgery this Thursday. I normally don't ask, but no matter your faith, would you mind keeping him in your thoughts/prayers.

Thanks,
Kellie

Oh Kelarie. How i will pray for your nephew, you and your family. It's bad enough when i hear about anybody having a brain tumor (or any other devastating illness) but it just tears me apart when i hear that it's a child. They are so innocent to have to go through something like this.

Thanks y'all. He is resting, today was a long day. We should get the results from today's MRI. One step closer to surgery and hopefully getting this taken care of. Thanks again.

His surgery was today and the doctor thinks she got it all. The tumor was the size of a golf ball. It was either stage 1 or stage 2, so after we get the final pathology we will know what path we will be taking, but looks like chemo or radiation will be in his future. He has been a real trooper. I got to see him in recovery and he knew me and smiled at me. Made me feel great and broke my heart at the same time. It kills me to see his little body like that. But at least we are a step closer to getting him back to bouncing around. Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers.

Great news we are out of the NICU and back to a regular room. Five days in NICU and he is getting small steps closer to getting out of there. Also he is completely free of tubes, wires, etc. which is a great!!!

Just playing the waiting game with pathology. As soon as we know what we are dealing with then we know what the treatment will be.

Thanks again for the thoughts/prayers y'all. He is my precious nephew and this has nearly killed me, but he is a fighter.

I'm glad that the surgery seems to have retrieved all of the tumor. I'm sure that he feels better just not having all of those tubes!

Hey guys. We got the results from the oncologist. Not good news, it is stage 4 medullablastoma. The survival rate with this type of cancer is 50% beyond 5 years. He will be having radiation/chemo for the next 55 weeks. My job as an aunt is to make sure he is happy and to support my brother and sister-in-law. This is really rough since he is so young. He got the port in yesterday.

So y'all keep this young fighter in your thoughts.

Thanks again for everything.

Kellie
