I love the comments on it. There are many more important news stories than a crazy 89 year old who has predicted doom far more than a normal person should.

As long as there are people that believe him, he will continue to predict the Rapture.

Most importantly. That's what it's all about.

"Close call! Almost had to cut the grass today. Feeling pretty rapturous about getting out of it!"
It's fun to poke at this guy, but in a way is serious. How do people become so deceived following cult leaders/false prophets? I always wondered that about Jonestown, Guyana, how a mother could feed her kids poison cool-aide? If Camping's followers are truly Bible believers, why don't they believe their Bible? (Matt. 24:36), "But of that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone."
This Camping guy should have been laughed off the airwaves no later than 15 years ago, when he was WRONG FOR THE 3RD TIME:
Harold Camping states in his book 1994? that the end of the world may occur somewhere between September 5th and the 27th of 1994 (p. 531). He does not know the exact day because scripture says "no man knows the day nor the hour" (Matt.24:36) but according to Camping we can certainly know the month and the year that Christ will return. After September came and went, he proclaimed December 25, 1994 as the end of the world. Harold Camping then proclaimed another date, April 3, 1996 as the end of the World.

I am an atheist but I'll come to the Christians defense here.

I just wish religion was kept out of news. It causes to much commotion and nonconstructive arguments.

It really breaks my heart to see people mocking the word of God. But I shouldn't be too surprised; just another sign o' the times.
II Peter 3:3-4 knowing this first, that in the last days mockers shall come with mockery, walking after their own lusts, and saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

Lester most people I have seen mocking concerning this are not mocking God's word, they are mocking a false prophet, as said above.

Correct! And the bad thing about guys like Camping and the Westboro Baptist Church, they mock our Lord and give "Christianity" a bad reputation! It certainly IS looking like the end times...

Bad news for Mr. Camping:
Deuteronomy, 18:20-22 wrote:
20 “‘But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in My name, which I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that prophet shall die.’
21 “And if you say in your heart, ‘How shall we know the word which the LORD has not spoken?’—
22 “when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the thing does not happen or come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously; you shall not be afraid of him.”

I was just passing through, and I saw this. I have done some research on the Mayans along the lines of the Dresden Codex, I think that they had a problem with the length of their year and they missed the date for the end of the “world” by some 400 days +/-. I am thinking it will be 10/29/2011 when Jupiter at opposition, but it may have been last September 21, 2010 when the Full Moon was at perigee while Jupiter was at opposition. I don’t think there will be much in the way of earthquakes, because the Moon will be new and earthquakes are contraindicated. Of course there is a bit of semantics involved. This is a tipping point of sorts. It is the closest approach of the Earth to Jupiter for a very long time for at least 1000 years. The Horizons Ephemeris only goes to 3000 and the numbers for Jupiter don’t go that far. The word “world” has been mistranslated it should be “cycle.” That is what I would be thinking about if I was growing corn. Well I do grow corn, but not that much, not like the Mayan.
