Anyone done this recently? Was thinking unless you're a huge sports guy is cable still needed? As long as you have high speed internet you can watch almost any show you want online. All the networks put their shows on their websites. Add in Hulu and Netflix for $15 a month and you should never run out of things to watch.

I suppose you could do that. I like watching shows on my big HD TV, though, and Hulu/Netflix are not true 1080p HD, they're 720p at best. Of course, some TV shows may not be broadcast in true HD as well, even though they say that they are. And in the near future (starting 2012), TVs that can handle the new HD standard (4K) will be appearing. That's way higher resolution than even current HD. Great for huge screens 70" or bigger, which is what my next TV will be.

And then there's the internet. Getting rid of cable would mean no internet, and no Hulu/Netflix for you.

Finally, there's my 82 year-old mother living with us. Where would she be without her Wheel of Fortune every night and Jeopardy! every afternoon. They're not available at CBS.com

You can just get cable Internet without television. I have seen 4k television, but they are expensive.

There's a lot of ways to get the web without 'cable'.

And with the sub-channels in most markets, you get a lot more choices over-the-air.

Yeah, I'll be dropping satellite in the next year or so and I'm not really sure I'll miss it all that much.
