Bad news

-- A heavily armed gunman killed at least 14 people and wounded 50 more during an early Friday morning screening of the new Batman movie at an Aurora, Colorado, theater, police Chief Dan Oates told reporters.

Police arrested a man believed to be the shooter in a rear parking lot of the theater, Frank Fania, a police spokesman, told CNN. The suspect was not immediately identified, though Fania said he was believed to be in his early 20s.

"He did not resist. He did not put up a fight," Fania said. Police seized a rifle and a handgun from the suspect, and another gun was found in the theater, he said.

This is way past a SENSELESS TRAGEDY, PURE EVIL PERSONIFIED!! Sending up prayers for all those affected and we must remember there are hundreds.
Hoping to hear from any of our Colorado members that all is well with them.

All's well for me here in Denver. Had a bit of a tense day. Something this close and this widespread obviously will touch people near, and will manifest in lots of "I have a friend whos friend was shot" type stories and in fact I have already heard of people with various connections...My first fear this morning was my friend was there, but I found out shortly after he had gone to a different theater. Sad all around though. I and the rest of Colorado are ready for this sumer to end...fires...innocent cop killings...record heat and drought...now this...September cant get here soon enough.

I'll bet that you are. I thought of Littleton and Columbine as soon as I heard about this. My prayers go out to all in Colorado. There's one photo of the anguished father hugging two people, I'm assuming one is his wife, that's all over the media. His son was the one celebrating his birthday by watching the movie. That's a photo I will never forget. I don't understand.... :(

Well, I did end up having a connection to the shooting. A friend of mine, well more of an acquaintance I guess, lost her sister Cayla. It's pretty awful, they spent all Friday trying to find hr but she was dead in the theater. Police just took a long time to confirm... :( her sister is a great girl and from I can tell it was a strong family.

Sorry to hear that... :( My condolences to the family!

A couple of updates:
Everything I am reading now has the death/injured toll at 12/59, respectively.

Also: All the explosive materials at the terrorist's house have been safely removed and taken to the dump for controlled det...everyone in the surrounding apartment complexes were allowed to return home last night. The only ones that aren't home yet, from my understanding, are those that lived in his specific apartment complex...due to the ongoing investigation.

He is not cooperating with police.
