This is a powerful message to those coward terrorists who did 9/11 and the message is that the US will not cave in to terrorists and with determination it will build buildings at ground zero more taller that the twin towers. :D :D

This is for Al-Qaeda :microwave:

IMHO they shouldn't build anything on ground zero. It should be a permenant memorial but I know how business works. So if they do include a memorial that be will ok, but I wonder if the families of the victims will agree?

rainband there will still be a memorial there, but i think to not rebuild would be a mistake. Build it bigger and stronger despite those A-Holes.

There will be a memorial in between the 2 buildings and I think that the familys will like it much to send a message to those cowards.

I dont like the idea building them bigger...just makes more trouble and even though it says we won...there's still more terror and times ahead that can happen here...or anywhere.

I understand what your saying Rob... You have a point that makes it hard for anyone to argue with, but i feel it is a must to rebuild... We cant just not build tall buildings anymore cause we are scared. Were America. no one derails us from our plan..

I completely agree Chad. I just think that NYC has seen enough strain, especially in their financial district to set them back a long time...especially the human/emotional pains that still linger there. While I'd love to see something towering over the rest of the skyline higher and taller than any structure in the world, it goes without saying that it could just as well have a target painted on the side of it. I hope that if this gets built, that terrorism wont play a part...but we all know that there are cruel people out there.

Rob I understand your point about being a target. It's like asking to be hit again! However, there comes a time when you get knocked down that you have to pick yourself up and challenge the bully. Symbolicly, I think building the towers taller is a very visual way of saying.."We're here and we won't go away!" I think Americans as a whole don't want the terrorists to have any sort of victory out of the tragedy of Sept 11.

So very true about that. I think our patriotism runs so thick now that we are now to the point where we are not scared to die, or for that matter take over a plane when those SOB's try something like that. We learn from our mistakes for sure, and we do bounce back, but the question remains where and when they'll strike again? They will eventually pay for their wrongdoings and 'beliefs' as I have no respect for someone terrorizing something 'just because they were told to by God' or anyone else for that matter. For these people, this is all they've known all their lives...I feel sorry for them.

You can't not rebuild the site of a tragedy just because people died there. Imagine if we didn't rebuild New Orleans out of respect for all the people who lost their lives there. You can't build memorials over every piece of land that has hosted a tragedy...over human history, our whole planet would be a graveyard.

I grew up 15 miles from NYC and I saw those towers every time I got on the highway. The first sight anybody saw driving into the city on I-78 was the Twin Towers. I'll be darned if all I see left are those stumpy little World Financial Center buildings on my way into New York.

It's like when you ask New Orleans (ex)residents whether or not that city should be rebuilt, the overwhelming response is "why is that even a question?", and it seems downright offensive to even suggest abandoning it. Locals up in the Tri-State feel the same way.

And wtf - why is this thread here? What kind of person goes digging around for a random 3-year-old thread and posts a one-line response?

It won't be the tallest building anymore; the tallest building will be the Burj Dubai in the UIE. It will be at least 160m taller and finished 3 years earlier.

0.8km high? lol I've been up the tv tower in Berlin at just 368m and that had a good view, from double the height you'd be able to see a long way.
