MIssouri has "Right-To-Carry"...FINALLY!!!

In a sweeping override of the Honorable (?) Governor Bob Holden's veto, Missouri has joined the vast majority of states which now have a "shall-issue" right-to-carry law on the books.

Debi KNOWS what I want for Christmas...

An interpretation, please, Bill. I gather that it is now legal to carry a "piece." Is a permit required? Is a justification required for the permit? Are you allowed to carry it concealed? etc?
And what was the law before this?

I don't know about their new law but in Az......anyone with a state issued hunting permit, can carry and wear anywhere, anytime......Az has had the concealed weapons permit for over 10 years now......I've got the concealed and carry a sidearm 99.99% of the time, especially out working in the boonies....."There's BARS in them thar woods!"

I know you have the right to carry in Florida too. I think the only requirements are you have to be 21, apply for the special license, and pass a background/criminal check. And yes, you can get a concealed weapons permit too. I guess it's good in a way considering all the crazy people in this world that you need to defend yourself from. And we do have the right to bear arms. But it's still scary. Accidents happen. I hope everyone that carries puts safety first. Now that I'm a momma, I would prefer guns to stay away from me and my darling baby.

OK, in Missouri, one has to be 21, no criminal history, and be able to pass a MULES (Missouri Uniform Law Enforcement System)/NCIC/FBI background check; application is made through the local sheriff's department (I'm not sure how much the fee will be), and once cleared, the applicant must complete a specified course of training in firing....the preferred method is called "point-shoot".

This is for concealed carry only, and they MEAN concealed! If, at any time, the permit holder shows his/her weapon in plain sight, other than in use for self-defense, they can be held for "brandishing a firearm", with penalties as stated under Federal and state law. It ain't the "Old West", ladies and gents; merely a means for law-abiding people to choose "not to be a victim".

And note that, in states that have "right-to-carry", violent crime goes WAY down almost overnight...criminals would much rather face police than an armed citizen.

Previously, anyone not a law-enforcement/corrections/licensed private security officer, or a member of the Armed Forces under orders, faced fine and imprisonment if found in possession of a handgun when not in his/her own home or business. Period.

It is not those who have passed the background checks, taken the training and carry guns legally that you should worry about (or, someone like myself, a former policeman); it is those who have obtained or stolen guns illegallly, who flaunt the law at every opportunity, who feed on fear, shock and surprise to gain what they wish...THEY are the ones to fear.

Your safety, and that of your baby, would be my FIRST concern, as always....and, remember that someone like myself may well prove, someday, to be the only thing standing between you and harm's way.

That's why we HAVE "right-to-carry".

Well, the new law, to take effect 11 OCT, provides for businesses to place "NO GUNS" signs in their windows; any permit holder who violates this provision gets a stiff $2,500 fine, confiscation of firearm and and loss of permit.

Futher, no guns are permittted in or on school grounds, churches and/or government buildings (understandably so).

This seems, IMHO, to defeat the purpose of "concealed carry"...FI, perps have been assaulting shoppers at the local stores in their parking lots, brandishing knives/guns and taking their money and credit cards, usually in groups of between 2 and seven at last report, right here in Sikeston. NO ARRESTS have been reported in any of these cases at this time, but this is precisely why "concealed carry" is necessary. :grrr:

Lindaloo, I may choose to break tradition in favor of a .380 Walther PP or PPK; much easier to conceal, and very good at close range, which is when most shoot-outs occur (within 7 yards or less).

Ask me if I still remember what I was taught at the MPD STL Academy... :wink:
