ITHACA, N.Y. (Court TV) — The search for a missing life-sized cow mascot is over, but the investigation into the fake bovine's disappearance remains open.

Beloved bovine Cornellia had disappeared in late August from the roof of the Cornell Dairy Bar before being spotted on Sept. 10 carousing with real cattle and horses in an enclosed pasture area at the Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine.

University spokesperson Blaine Friedlander said police believe the disappearance was part of a prank. The case remains open.

"I think its going to stay a mystery," Friedlander said. "I think the Cornell police have better things to do."

The employees that found Cornellia around 4:30 a.m. told police that she was not there when they last checked on the animals around 2:30 a.m., according to police. Cornellia was mysteriously covered in raccoon tracks and was a bit dirty and smelly, according to authorities. Her red ribbon also was missing.

Cornellia's next stop on her trip home was the Cornell police evidence locker, where she was branded with an identification number in case she is ever taken again, authorities said.

Dairy Bar employees then claimed Cornellia and transported her home in a milk truck. She will likely not be returned to the roof.

As for the eagle-eyed employees who spotted her, there was a sweet reward -- a free half gallon of ice cream every day for the next month.
