for a National Poetry Contest. She wrote this poem the first week of school for English Homework. Little did we know her teacher was gonna
enter it in a contest lol. Well a couple of weeks ago I got a call from the teacher telling me what she had done and a letter from the contest people asking us to approve of them publishing it in a Book called A Celebration of Young Poets She is 12 yrs old and this is exactly how she remembers 9/11/01. I thought I'd share it with all of you as I am a pretty proud Mom lol:
A Beautiful Day
It started out a beautiful day,
When neither wind nor rain was in our way.
The people of New York walked the streets,
But then their world came to a screech.
We went to school, and ended mass,
But a last minute announcement stopped our class.
A horrible event New York had seen,
2 planes, 2 buildings, what did this mean?
We turned on the news, and what we saw,
Were 2 flaming towers beginning to fall.
Our hearts then sank at that same time,
And prayed for our country, with all of our minds.
A year ago we cried our eyes,
But now we know to show our pride.
