About 3,000 electricity customers in west Topeka were without power this morning for more than an hour.
Karla Olsen, spokeswoman for Westar Energy, said a squirrel got into equipment at a substation near S.W. 17th and Fairlawn. Olsen said power went out at about 7:50 a.m. and was restored at about 9 a.m.

She said the outage occurred in an area between S.W. 10th to S.W. 21st and S.W. Fairlawn to S.W. Wanamaker.
