Some want to make money off the storm

Some entrepreneurs are hoping to cash in on the weekend storm that buried most of the Northeast in 2 to 4 feet of snow.

Among the items now up for sale on the eBay Internet auction site are packages of snow that fell in New York City and Nazareth, Pa., both of which were going for about $1, and Blizzard of 2003 sweatshirts ($9.99 each) and pins (3 for $10).

While admitting there was little interest for their goods so far, the sellers were still hopeful of finding a market.

Among them were Patricia and Mike Impagliazzo, who were offering white ceramic dessert plates that would feature a photo of the buyer's snow-covered home and the amount of snow that fell there. However, the Little Egg Harbor couple said no one had expressed interest in the $19.99 plates as of Tuesday night.

"We hope that as people start to dig out, they will look for a way to capture that moment in their lives," Mike Impagliazzo told the Home News Tribune of East Brunswick for Wednesday's editions.

Things were a little better for Paul Schmidt, who was selling snow that fell near his home in Manhattan. The samples, which Schmidt collected during the storm and stored in his freezer, are being sold individually or as a set.

Schmidt found one interested buyer in Scott Newman of Tampa, Florida, who had bid $1.25 for an individual sample. Newman thought it would be funny to make a bid and have something to show Florida friends who have never seen snow.

"I was also wondering if I'd actually get the snow or just a bag of dirty water," Newman said.
