Talked to Bill this evening. He has a problem with his puter. Everytime they log on it automatically scrolls to the bottom of the screen and they can't get i t back to where they need it. Has anyone had this problem and if so how do you solve it. They turned the comp off for the night so it could have a rest, hoping that might help. They are on a Dell like me, but I haven't had that problem. Could it be the isp? It happens no matter whose desktop set up they are using.

I'm back, briefly...it also happens offline, such as when Debi uses Word to transcribe notes.

It's happening as I type this...be back tomorrow.

Is it possible it could be a virus...Virus do somewacked out things sometime.

I have a friend and a while back when he would log onto the internet a timer of one minute would start up and then once the minute was up it would shut down....He later found it was a computer virus.

I concure this could be a virus (sounds like one). Update your virus tables. If you do not have an antivirus program then GET ONE this will save you alot of trouble. If you are on broadband I would suggest that you get a firewal program. You can get them cheap and even free. downloads.com has ZONEALARM and this is a good one. I use Norton Internet Security 2002 along with my Router which is a HARDWARE fire wall

What is a firewall? It basically makes you invisiable to the public by masking your REAL IP address. So when a hacker/troublemaker PINGS your system they get back a BOGUS IP so when they try it it gets them nowhere.

Every time they log on to the internet- or every time they log on to the computer? And what screen? What exactly is scrolling? (And what is yalls deffinition of scrolling)

Turning the computer off and restarting is a good idea in general- but "giving it a rest" won't help or hurt the problem. Computers don't fix themselves while they nap

"Scrolling" refers to the screen immediately "dropping" to the bottom without any use of our mouse (an optical one with scroll wheel).

I have Norton 2003 and Ad-Aware Pro Build 181, and as of just now, no viruses, malicious tracking registries or spyware have been discovered by either of them. Both are updated personally several times a week.

My suspicion is that either (a) we need a new mouse, or (b) that an IMMENSE download my wife got from college (14 hours worth of it!) may have had "malicious scripts" attached. She has already deleted the file and program, and is only using it at school at this time.

I would try a different mouse first. Sounds like that is the culprit. Possible virus, but doesn't really sound like one.
