FORT WORTH, Texas - When a 16-year-old girl violated her probation by running away briefly earlier this year, attorneys on both sides agreed that a taste of life behind bars might be in order.
To them, the girl, who was sentenced to three years' probation for a sex crime in March 2001, seemed to be a good candidate for Tarrant County's post-adjudication program -- basically a short-term, lock-up facility that's used in part to motivate juveniles who violate their probation to straighten up.
For many, it's the last stop before the Texas Youth Commission, which is essentially the prison for juveniles.
