Police in Huntsville, Ala., say a man opened fire during an argument at a temporary employment agency Tuesday morning, killing three people and wounding two others, one critically.

Huntsville Hospital spokesman Terri Bryson said three people were dead on the scene at Labor Ready, located near downtown Huntsville. She said a 55-year-old man is undergoing surgery -- he's listed in critical condition.

The bad news of late for our nation and world just doesn't seem to cease. :o

I just don't understand how people get so frustrated that they think taking a life is the answer. What happened to the good old fist fight?

Maybe we have to start a good news thread....the good news is out there too it just doesn't get the air time from major media outlets.

I agree. The last I heard about this case was that he was holed up in a home. I am not near the wire services until this afternoon. Anyone heard an update?

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (AP) - A "very unstable" man opened fire Tuesday during an argument over a CD player at a temporary employment agency, killing four people and wounding a fifth.

The gunman was later believed to be cornered in his apartment, where police said he shot at officers. Authorities evacuated a residential area around the small building, which was surrounded by law officers throughout the morning.

Three people were dead on the scene at Labor Ready Inc. (LRW), and a 55-year-old man died during surgery, Huntsville Hospital spokeswoman Terri Bryson said.

Bryson said the wounded man, 46, was expected to be treated and released for what police described as a leg wound.


Police said the shooting occurred about 6:30 a.m. in the lobby of Labor Ready, where as many as 15 people were gathered waiting for work.

"A fight broke out among two groups of men over a CD player," said police spokesman Wendell Johnson. The suspect was well-known both to employees and other laborers, he said.

"People who know him say he is a very unstable individual," said Johnson.

Witness Patricia Johnson, 38, said at one point the man turned the weapon on her and pulled the trigger, but nothing happened. She ran for cover into a closet, where three or four people already were hiding.

The man left in a car and apparently went to his home, where police Lt. Vince Dauro said at least one shot was fired as officers arrived outside the apartment building.

A police tactical team and dozens of patrol cars surrounded the building, where the man was believed to be alone. Officers saw movement through a window but had no immediate contact with the man, Dauro said.

"Sometimes these things can take a while," said Dauro.

The Labor Ready office is next to a building that houses law enforcement agencies, including state troopers and investigators with the Madison County sheriff's department.

Based in Tacoma, Wash., Labor Ready describes itself as the nation's largest provider of temporary manual labor for light industry and small businesses.

Amazing how some minds work, eh?

Nowadays, disagreeing with someone can be fatal. People
with those kinds of thought processes would have been on
daily killing sprees in the protests of the 60's. The world
continues to get even weirder... :o

I live in Huntsville, The town is sad and it just literally hit to close to home. We do not understand what happened. You never know what someone will say to set off another person. We hope another thing like this does not happen.
