Those times when my folks, sister and I went to my maternal grandmother's house in southwest Indiana for the holiday dinner and the fellowship with aunts, uncles and cousins who would join us there!
One time (it was either the late '60s or early '70s) my Dad and I accompanied my Uncle Bud while rabbit hunting and his dog Joe-Joe
who went with us, too!

Afterwards stopping by their house where I remember Aunt Virginia serving us some homemade pumpkin pie!
Uncle Bud and Aunt Virginia are both now with the Lord...but oh for those sweet memories like that.
What are some of your favorite Thanksgiving memories?

Kids weren't allowed in the kitchen on Thanksgiving growing up so my memories of thanksgiving growing up were turkey and old people and being dressed up and shown off.
Last year though, I spent two days with my fiancee's mom (Lisa) and she walked me through my first turkey- my first run in with bread stuffing... I helped make the pumpkin bread and the sugared pecans. She was over my shoulder, directing just how much of this or that to add to everything. We sat over a bowl of stale french bread tearing chunks of it for the stuffing for 2 hours and talking about thanksgiving when she grew up and the upcomming wedding plans. It was at that point that I really, truely realized how lucky I was to be marrying into such a wonderful family- and how much I craved the sort of hands on teaching that my own mom never offered. It was one of the happiest thanksgivings ever- good food, laughter, cooking, and family.
God but I miss her....

Those are great memories, Skywatch and OG.
I remember helping my mother make bread stuffing, and setting the table (using the "good" dishes and silverware that were reserved for maybe 2 or 3 times a year). I also remember watching the parade on TV with everyone in my family. Good memories.

For fifty years, my mom's family got together at the same grange hall in our hometown for Thanksgiving dinner. Two 24# turkeys and all the trimmings for up to 70 of us. Starting at 9 am, the party went on until 9 in the evening. After dinner, there was a small stage where each of us cousins put on a show for the adults. Singing, playing the sax, a little skit...but what a show! Afternoon was reserved for poker games among the men, football on tv (in later years), women sharing stories, and us kids having the run of the place. Leftovers at about 6 pm were followed by an hour of watching slides from various family events during the year.
Fifty years this went on...can you believe it? My mom's side dwindled to 3 or 4 left, the cousins tried to take over but by then were all over the country. It finally ended the same year the grange hall was torn down to put in a gas station.
The memories are amazing still.
This year, Jarrod, Kathy and myself for Thanksgiving dinner before he hits the road for San Diego. It will be special, too.

What a great memory Steve!
We lived in a 2 story house growing up on the Reservation, old government quarters built in the late 1800's. My bedroom was directly over the kitchen, the SMELL of the turkey and pies cookin' would wake me up! I would get up, go downstairs and help with the dressing etc. My mother would always boil the neck, gizzard and liver for broth, she would save me the neck, I "LOVE" chewin' on the neck bone, still do to this day!
