PALMER, Alaska — Next time, Troy Woods III will probably watch his ash.
Woods, 24, was ticketed this week for littering after allegedly tossing cigarette ash from his truck window as he drove home from his graveyard shift as an electrician in Anchorage. He also was cited for driving with a suspended license.
An officer spotted the alleged flagrant flick because it was dark and a shower of sparks was visible bouncing off the road, according to Alaska State Trooper Mike Burkmire.
About a half-mile up the road Burkmire reportedly spotted Woods tossing the glowing tip of the cigarette, sometimes called the "cherry," from his 1992 Dodge pickup.
When confronted by the trooper, Woods reportedly presented what he thought was incontrovertible evidence that he didn't litter: the cigarette butt was still in his hand.
Nevertheless, the errant ash earned Woods a $60 ticket. He reportedly plans to fight the ticket and the citation for driving without a license.
