Ad-Aware or Spybot?

I had Ad-Aware, and downloaded Spybot Search-and-Destroy; Spybot informed me that some of its services are incompatible with Ad-Aware, so I deleted both temporarily, until I got your take on this.
Since I can only have ONE, which do you all recommend? :-?

Does anyone have a link for Ad-Aware? Is it a subscription service?

The only one that I have tried is adaware, and it works great for me, no plans to change. Thanks by the way for whoever brough this up abouyt 6 months back. I never heard of it until I heard about it here, then I downloaded it and have been using it ever since.

I have them both and run them both. When you start Spybot it will give you a message that sounds like a warning. All it means is that when it searches your system it might pick up on the Adaware files that tell Adaware what to look for. Not to worry - I've never had a problem. Just click ok and proceed.

I tried Ad-aware after SpyBot S&D and SpyCop both failed to completely alleviate my problem with popup spyware and adware crap.

OK, I downloaded Ad-Aware 6, Build 181 "Personal", and configured it to open and run on all three Desktops (Windows XP); now, how do I "tweak" it for maximum scanning?

You really don't need to tweak it as far as I know (I run it about 2x a week and love it), just make sure you check about 2 x a week for the latest definitions and you should be set to go. (You can do that by using the Check for latest update link in the program.

I downloaded and installed Spybot after I believe it was pawlee who mentioned it. I ran it a few times and each time it 'hung' at the same point for at least twenty minutes before I decided to stop it... I have since uninstalled it.
As for Ad-Aware, I run it every few days and it has apparently been doing it's job.

I also use a program called SpywareGuard to help keep spyware from getting on my computer. But I'd only recommend that if you're computer savvy, as it will pop up with lots of alerts if things try to hijack your settings. :o

Well, I am definitely not in the same class as some of you, who've grown up with cybertoys (remember, this old goat has only had one for four years)!
However, I did a sweep of all three Desktops, and cleaned them up nicely. Since I'm the ONLY one in the house that does the whole shebang (Delete History, Temporary Internet Files and Offline Content, Delete Cookies, clean up hard disk, defragment the hard drive, and Ad-Aware), it does get time consuming, but worth the aggravation (especially cleaning up after coppertop!).
