Buddy/Ignore List Test On Subsilver

I have just added a new feature for the s2k Message board, and we now have it up on the Subsilver Template ONLY Will be added to the other templates shortly, it is sort of in a Beta testing form right now.. As long as everything goes ok, were all set.. So if you have any problems Please let me know

You can acess your Buddy/Ignore list via the Button on top of the forum.. There you can manually add who goes to what List (Explanation of groups below) You will also now notice three smileys below each members name in there each individual posts.. Put your cursor over each smiley and it will tell you exactly what each smiley does.. One adds user to your buddy, one adds to your ignore, and one adds them to your disallow contact list.. Those same three smileys will appear next to each member in the Memberlist so this is another way to adding users to each list.. One last way to add users is via there individual Profiles.. The options will appear below there profile..

Buddy List Features:
-A "Buddy/Ignore " button is available on top of the forum. Clicking it launches a new
window that lists the user's buddies and their online/offline status.
-You can be alerted when your buddies come online or go offline (requires Javascript
being turned on in your browser).

Ignore List Features:
-When User A is ignoring User B:
-User B cannot view some of User A's contact information (PM and email links) in
the member list, topics, and profile.
-User B cannot send private messages or email (via the board) to User A.
-User A will not see User B in the member list or "who is online" list on the
board index and will not see User B's posts in topics.
-User A will not see topics started by User B if they have no replies or only one
reply (which has to be by a user ignored by User A).
-On pages that hide something regarding User B from User A, User A will see a link
that allows User A to view the page including whatever was hidden.

Disallow List Features:
This is a "disallow contact" list, which means users added to this list cannot
contact or view contact information via the board. It's like a lesser version of an
ignore list, for those that just don't want to get PMs from an annoying user.
-When User A has listed User B on User A's Disallow List:
-User B cannot view any of User A's contact information (PM, website, and email
links, and instant messenger information) in the member list, topics, and
profile.
-User B cannot send private messages or email (via the board) to User A.

Please set me know of any problems/Questions

It would take me half of hurricane season to add everyone I would want on my buddy list. :) So, I think I'll use it not for "buddies" so to speak, but specifically for the staff, mets, Hou/Galvers, coastal GOMers, and other major weather posters of interest during the tropical season. Okay, that still doesn't narrow it down much, does it? LOL!

*scratching head*

I can't imagine a reason to iggy posts, regardless of which member it is from. But to spare any abuse of PM's and email, it could be a good idea. More good work by the mods (and it might make your jobs easier if problems are prevented before they arise). :)

Hmmm. I'm not sure if this is for me...
I already don't list my email address, and I don't use any IM at all. (I prefer all communications to stay on the boards or PM). Also, maybe I'm one of the lucky few, but there's no one here that I would wish to ignore. I guess that middle aged, balding, dumpy looking me is "safe" from harassment.

I would hate to seem unapproachable to anyone, especially new members. So the only advantage would be to see if a "buddy" is on line. But it's a nice feature to have if needed.

Ed, I'm with you on the IM. I don't care for it at all either! When we had AOL I'd enjoy IM'ing for a few minutes with another friend but after a bit, I wanted to browse the boards there. Or read an article. I didn't want to be rude and say I have other things to do right now. I just couldn't figure out how people did both - roam the internet and IM at the same time! I'm not good at multi-tasking. LOL So now that we don't even have AOL, I've never activated an IM list. And I know I never will. I much prefer PM's here on the boards or actual emails. Just the way I am. My kids tell me "everyone" IM's. And I'm just out of the loop. A party pooper.....LOL Oh well, that's me!

And I can't imagine ever ignoring anyone either! Again, that's just not me. But it's another feature others may want. I respect that.

Thanks for the feedback guys... Im not realy into the whole ignore thing either.. But unfortuantly there are some that just do NOT need to have contact with others.> LOL save a fight before it begains kind of thing.. And everyone should be able to enjoy storm2k and not be "botherd" if they dont want to be.. Thats the only reason for the ignore part..

I've received four "BID List System Messages" today, I thought liked getting them. :D Of course, right away was
getting -----> Template->make_filename(): Error - file ./templates/fiplain/bidcp_header.tpl does not exist.

I switched from FI Plain to two other templates (not Subsilver) after I received the first couple "BID List System Messages." I am going to select Subsilver in a moment to check it out. :D

I enjoy IM-ing and PM-ing, however just saying hello, without having anything else specific to say may be annoying to the ones we want to IM with. I wish I got more e-mail, but there isn't anything for anyone to say to me. I actually enjoy multitasking. :)

Yes, Chad. As I said, I changed it from the "FI Plain" template to the "Subsilver" template a few minutes ago to use the feature and have gone back to FI Plain. :)

wx247 - I second that! I'd like to know too. I've had several PM's that people have put me on their buddy list. But I haven't even started one of my own list's! I don't plan to honestly. I can't imagine ever ignoring anyone here. These aren't TWC message boards ya know......if we have a trouble maker here, it's not my concern. The Admin will handle it so see, I have no use for that ignore button. You're ALL on my buddy list.....LOL

But seriously, I would like this explained, in dummy terms that is, also.

Thanks!

No need to use it Ladies and Gentleman.. The main reason it was installed was for the Ignore list.. While You and I have no one we need to ignore obviously there are some that need to "ignore" others.. Same reason we had to post the harassemet thread.. As far as what you can do with the buddy list: Just an easy way to store all your "buddies" for quick access to there profiles, and instant messenger info etc.. Also you are able to set an alert tone to let you know when one of your buddies is online.. Thats all.. Not a big thing, just came with the ignore program.. No need to use it.. Just there as an option ;-)

Chad - thanks for clearing that up. Putting people you PM with in one file makes sense to me I guess. I just usually hit reply after they've PM'ed me. That seems to work. But I can see where some members might like to have their close friends' profiles in one place.
