BRANDON, Fla. — There are hundreds of cars in parking lots across Hillsborough County, but two accused burglars picked the one with an undercover deputy sitting inside.

Holly Moore, 20, and Jennie Simpson, 18, were arrested shortly after 8 p.m. on Jan. 5 after repeated attempts to find unlocked vehicles at Brandon's Regency Square shopping center. A squad of deputies wearing street clothes and standing in the shadows watched with amusement as the two women eventually found a car to their liking. Unfortunately for them, it was an unmarked sheriff's cruiser with tinted windows. They opened the door and were greeted by an undercover deputy sitting inside.

The officers were members of the Selective Enforcement Squad, which had been out making the rounds of parking lots to combat the problem of auto burglaries, according to the sheriff's department.

Moore and Simpson were charged with four counts of attempted burglary of a vehicle, according to a Hillsborough County circuit court clerk.
