4. High Condition (Orange). A High Condition is declared when there is a high risk of terrorist attacks. In addition to the Protective Measures taken in the previous Threat Conditions, Federal departments and agencies should consider the following general measures in addition to the agency-specific Protective Measures that they will develop and implement:

Coordinating necessary security efforts with Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies or any National Guard or other appropriate armed forces organizations;
Taking additional precautions at public events and possibly considering alternative venues or even cancellation;
Preparing to execute contingency procedures, such as moving to an alternate site or dispersing their workforce; and
Restricting threatened facility access to essential personnel only.

I was in the mall last night and thought to myself....it would be so easy for a coordinated, nationwide, suicide bombing type attack to hit the shopping malls. Cumulative fatality numbers could easily exceed 911.

I'm not sure why it hasn't happened yet??

FWIW, I spoke this morning on an unrelated matter to someone with Virginia DES; this person indicated they have been told nothing more credible than the previous "orange" alerts.

Person said it is *possible*, not likely but possible, certain state(s) could go to a Condition Red if there was specific information. As we're next to DC (and the Pentagon is in VA), we have a huge nuke plant and Norfolk Naval Station, the DES in Virginia is very edgy right now.

This is the first time we've been under the orange alert in six months.

If that would happen with the holiday hustle and bustle going on, I would turn so red :bad-words: :grrr:

Yes, but you are right--maybe these terrorists are not the brightest people on the block--they don't know the fact that there are thousands of shopping malls in this country.

If they can fly a 767 halfway across the country into a building they could probably blow up a mall with ease.

I think this time, they might blow up (or try to) something very conspicuous as a smoke screen; the real attack would be deadly, fast-acting bio-chem in nature in extremely closed spaces holding tens of thousands...malls, subways, trains, stadiums, etc.

Multilple attacks in many such places at the same time is a possibility, and they only need ONE person per target to do it.

Seems to me the Superbowl would be a target they would favor. Hopefully all the security at locations around the country..that we can and can't see will prevail over this threat.
