Stepped outside this morning for my first cuppa Joe, saw my 1st Robin of the year, the 51" of snow we had is now down to 4" and that should be gone by tomorrow. We hit 52*, forecast 58* tomorrow then "70*" by the Sunday!!! I'm ready to tell ya the truth!

Wow Dennis - winter and spring all in the span of two weeks for you. Hopefully the melting snow has helped with the drought conditions in Pinetop.

We finally saw the sun today for the first time in 12 days - its was so refreshing.

I think I'll go sit on the front porch swing and enjoy the cool evening here in Texas.

Still 8 foot drifts here....and a few days ago I was still shoveling my roof.....many collapses around here and a lot of barns have tumbled this year around here. We havent seen 50 degrees since October.

Upper 60s here both tomorrow and Sunday!! 8)

I've seen alot of robins over the last few days...it warms the heart! We're supposed to be in the low 50's this weekend and then it will cool down again, but it seems to be that the seasons are a changing! We still have alot of snow left to melt off from the President's Day storm, but I am seeing alot of grassy spots now.

that shared in the rain and snow of February have gone from Severe-Extreme Drought to Moderate Drought now according to the latest Drought Monitor map. However, not all of Arizona was so lucky and areas north and Northeast of Arizona have not fared well at all. Parts of MI are in Drought conditions along with ME and now a swath of developing drought is evident from ND into MN which tends to support my thought that the axis of most severe drought is shifting north.

Steve - is the shift due to the El Nino pattern which generally does not provide alot of snow to the Midwest?

I'm glad to hear about the downgrade of the drought to Moderate. Hopefully you can at least sustain that and not go back to severe/extreme.

BTW Dennis - aren't you supposed to be in bed because of your foot sir????

Spring there. @%^@%&#^ing Winter here. Another 3" snow the other day and 4 degrees this morning. We are going to have a great crop of mud here pretty soon.

Yeh this is weird weather...we almost hit 70 yday...today we barely got out of the 30s and tomorrow we hit 70 again. Ahh the clash of the seasons...yeh and we had a big ol' t-storm friday morning. But the real reason spring is coming is that i am on spring break from college finallY!!!!!!!!!!

I hate to say this, but winter's not over, and looking at some of the medium range and LR models.

I see some potential for a major WINTER storm across the east in the next 1-2 weeks ... More details to follow ...

A complicated pattern to commence ... with a ridge/trough/ridge/trough setup ... Also, the second major storm somewhere in the March 20th-25th timeframe should initiate SPRING. But, WINTER won't leave without a fight.

Stormsfury - I've seen some of the posts on TWC boards regarding that possibility. I know March is a wild month and anything can happen. I remember that generally around that time period of March 20 - 25 we've had days when the temps have reached the 70's and even 80! Talk about spring fever! I've had enough winter and especially when I get back from Mexico on the 20th, I certainly don't want to be coming back to a blizzard! Can you see what you can do??? LOL!

Yesterday morning, the GFS model actually indicated snow in ALL OF South Carolina on March 15th - which I knew was false (by surface depictions)...but the 500mb heights were phenomenal, meteorologically speaking ... the models have backed on this solution for now.

However, with all this latent heat and arctic cold simultaneous occurring. Something's gotta give...just the timing is something we'll (myself and the other forecasters/mets) work on honing down.

Lately, I've been just too busy with work (51 hours this week alone).

It was 73F/Sunny the last time I checked outside @ 18:00MST the 'Hotel California',aka:"La Casita del Oro".This weekend and into the early part of next week,looks scrumptious,most likely the lower 80s by Sun/Mon..and leveling off there,with moderate Rh and cool eves in the low-mid 40s due to radiational cooling,as the Desert has little to hold the heat of the day in until the infamous Afterburner month,JUNE!Agggggggg!Talk about a blast furnace!101F is a cold day in June,hence our July Monsoon respite is the only thing that keeps Zonis from permanant residency in San Diego!
