How much did you give?

Now that the bells have stopped ringing, how much change and bills do you think you gave to the Salvation Amry this season?
For me I probably put in around $15.00 altogether, giving some whenever I had some extra in my pocket I could give.
How about everyone else?

$0

Ever since I found out about the spacious resort - complete with dining hall, chapel, recreation hall (all three with state-of-the-art sound systems), horse stables, tennis court, b-ball court, swimming pool, lake, boats, and a dozen or so cabins -- in Waxahachie, TX that they have for the staff. That, in addition to the fact that they seem to enable the homeless to remain "homeless" (even though they have shelter) by charging them to stay there (some do, some don't -- in Galveston, they do), which keeps them from being able to save their money, get places of their own, and get back on their feet.

However, via direct deduction from my paycheck, I gave to the American Heart Association, the American Lung Association, the National Center For Missing and Exploited Children, and the March of Dimes, as well as volunteering with disaster services at the Red Cross and with the Texas Marine Mammal Stranding Network (dolphin rescue).

And I don't bother to total up what I give when the collection plate comes around at church. My belief is that tithing means 10% of your time as well as your money. And I'm thankful for the blessings I receive.

I gave a dollar or two to them and I feel guilty every time I pass and don't give money, but I agree with GalvDuck.

I am the sec/treas. of a nonprofit org. and we helped two families this Christmas and so I devoted most of my donations to it and our local Soup Kitchen.

I knew that there were scandals concerning the United way, but was unaware of this. All I know is that some of my wife's family members needed a boost once upon a time and the Salvation Army gave them that needed help to get back on their feet. That was quite a few years ago though. It is a sad state, when you can't even give to a legit charity like that without someone pilfering from the funds. :grr: :grr:

What little financial assistance I'm able to give goes through my Masonic dues to the Masonic Home of Missouri, the Royal Arch Ear Foundation and the Knights Templar Eye Foundation...asistance is available through these to ANYONE in need, regardless of race, creed, etc.

I also support the 50th Troop Carrier Wing/441st Troop Carrier Group (WW II) Association, in memory of my father; which may be absorbed into the 9th AF Association, but not before 2006.

I feel that when we tell others what we gave to another that we are loosing out on the blessings. The Bible states so not let your right hand know what your laft hand is doing and when you do charity do it in secret.

Just some FYI
Be Blessed!

I'd always thought the Salvation Army was one of the last few reputable charities to give to...guess not.

Lake -- I've been to the Waxahachie resort personally. And it's been in the news here in Galveston about them charging people to stay at the shelter.
