Do you believe that he deserves to be in the hall of fame or not after he admits on betting in baseball games? I think that he doesn't deserve to be in the hall despite the great numbers that he has in his resume.

Pete has paid long enough for what he did. Hey, other pro athletes have made mistakes, too...it seems Rose has been made a pariah scapegoat from this debacle.

Eric what Pete Rose did was a very bad thing betting on games and that is a very serious thing that MLB doesn't want to see happening. Now after his book comes out soon let's see what will be the reaction of commissioner Bud Selig and more important what the fans say about his admission on betting on games.

He surely isn't the ONLY pro athlete who's ever betted on games...yes, it is wrong that it happened...but again, other athletes have made mistakes in their careers. I mean by now...Rose may as well have committed a murder...with the way society has treated him. Talk about holding a GRUDGE!

I think Rose deserves to be in the Hall of Fame. He put up incredible numbers. He is also not the only 1 who has ever bet on baseball I'm sure.

My view is this: if he bet on games other than his own team' games, then I believe he's paid his debt and should be admitted in the Hall of Fame. If, however, he did bet on Reds games while he was managing them-- which the Dowd report says he did-- then he should never be reinstated, ever. He'd be no better than the 1919 Black Sox.

Yes that is what it has to be investigated about all his bets on what teams he did so and depending on how he did it then MLB has no choice to reinstall or not him into the baseball world.

Agree with your call Eric on those who live in Cincinnatti and are S2K members where Pete Rose played in all of his years playing baseball to voice their opinions about this.

I do think he has paid his dues also, we knew he'd finally admit it sometime, and if it was teams other than his. Let him in the hall where he should be.

Well Eric you may not like what I have to say about Pete Rose. But here are my honest opinions.

1. I believe he bet on baseball.

2. He should have come clean from the very beginning. Apologize right then and I think he'd be in the Hall of Fame right now! Stringing us all along for this long has upset this Reds fan.

3. He does deserve to be in the Hall of Fame, for his accomplishments while a baseball player. NO ONE can deny he was an awesome player, on the field and batting. He wasn't lead off batter for nothing.

4. He was/is my least favorite Big Red Machine player. Not because of his baseball accomplishments but because of his off the field behavior. It was a known fact he was a womanizer - a turnoff in my opinion. Now I realize a high percentage of professional atheletes cheat on their wives but Pete practically flaunted it in his wife's face. He just didn't have the finesse like Tony did (heard he cheated on his wife too, but we all just love Doggie here in Cincinnati) or Johnny Bench did. Pete was a scrappy street kid that made the big leagues. I'm happy he did, but his language has also been a turnoff to me. In recent years in interviews, a cuss word comes out of his mouth every minute it seems.

I know some of this may be a shock to you Eric, sorry if it is. It's just that Pete broke my heart having to step down from his position as Reds manager. A position he was cut out for. Not that he could have been the next Sparky Anderson - hands down the BEST Manager of all time but Pete could have come darn near close to that. I clearly remember the press conference when Pete resigned. My daughter Nina was a baby and she was on my lap. I was crying and she looked at me oddly. She wasn't even 2 yet but I just said - Oh Nina, it's a sad-sad day in Cincinnati and for Reds fans everywhere.

If he does truly apologize this time, it's about bloody time there Pete! I'm a firm believer if you screw up, confess right away and make it right. Just wish he had done that years ago.

I'm done. Next!!!

Ok...I know you probably disagree, and I feel he did bet on baseball, but even if it was in games involving the Reds, I do think he should be reinstated...and should be in the Hall...sorry if you disagree, but that's JMHO.

Jeremy - I agree with you. I believe he bet and even bet on the Reds possibly! Hate to think that, but there are witnesses to that.

I certainly don't want to slam Pete Rose and I do wish him well. I stand firm by the fact he should have confessed right away when the story broke so many years ago.

If he did not bet against his own team, then I see no reason to have kept him out of the hall. However, if he did, he not only should be banned, but should have hi records erased as well as anyone who bets against their own team should have no association what-so-ever with the sport

He wouldn't necessarily have to bet against his own team. Suppose he bet on his team to win by a certain number of runs, and they're winning by more than that. Would that have influenced his decision to leave a certain pitcher in the game that normally wouldn't be in the game at that point? Or maybe he wouldn't pinch-hit for a certain player in order to keep the score at a certain range? Compromising the integrity of the games he was managing under any circumstance in order to get monetary gains would be unforgivable, IMO.

I'm not denying that he was a great player. But if he was involved in bets on the Reds, he should remain banished, whether he fesses up to it or not.

I loved him when he was a Phillie - he was a part of the 1980 championship!

I believe that he is an awesome player as well. I agree that he should've come clean from the very beginning, whether it was pride, ego, etc. that made him not do it I have no idea. I hope that he did not bet on the Reds while he was with them.

I really don't know what to think - I believe that he should be apart of the Hall of Fame because I think that there have been others out there that have done the same thing.

Well, if he did bet on the Reds, and he gives a sincere-heartfelt apology that he did, I predict this town will forgive him 100%. That's just the way we Cincinnatian's are about our baseball players and especially the Big Red Machine players - they were baseball gods practically! A truly magical time in baseball history. It's been implied he bet on the Reds, there was a book that surfaced a few years ago. Some buddy of his from his Reds player/managing days that claims he did bet on the Reds. I know people will be disappointed he did that, if he did, but this is forgiving town too.

And even this non-Pete fan will forgive him. But he has to be truly sorry! Up until now he hasn't seemed very sorry.

Well pete.. If you play with fire, you will be BURNED..

Chad I agree with you on what you said about playing with fire as betting on baseball games is playing with fire and MLB doesn't want that kind of thing happening in that sport.
