Avatars

I'm not one to complain and I'm not trying to be a troublemaker, but I have to make a comment on some of the avatars that are being used. I'm not sure if this is the place to do that or not, but here goes.

I'm a normal hot blooded American guy. I appreciate seeing a beautiful lady just as much as any other guy. Hey, I married the most beautiful lady in the US (in my opinion :) ). But come on guys, is this weather board really the place to show half naked ladies? My 9 year old son often sits next to me as I read the board and to be honest with you, I'm not too keen on him seeing half naked ladies on some of the posts.

Again, I'm not trying to offend anyone or to cause trouble. I just don't think this board is the place to show those kind of pics. To be honest with you, I'd much rather see a lady fully dressed than to see her half naked...just looks cheap to me.

I'm 13, and I have no problem with seeing these girls on avatars. They are not TOTALLY naked, so I don't see a problem with them. ;)

I actually have to agree with Tim on this 1.. I know the women are pretty, and I know they are in scant clothes... But.. Some young people on this board are either offended or some of the grown ups on this board have children who might see it...

I just like Tim and not trying to cause trouble.. Just stating my own opinion...

If you don't respect my opinion.. You can bash me.. just do it in a civilized manner lol

I have to agree with Tim on this one too. Believe me, I am about the furthest thing from a prude or fuddy-duddy as you can get, but it just doesn't fit quite in with the environment here, IMO.

All I have is a dollar... anybody have 98 cents change? :D

Hey Weather Luvr.. I think I have 97 cents lol

I think that they're okay - but I understand what you are saying since this is a family-oriented board. Actually, Ticka did delete someone's a couple of days ago because it was really inappropriate, though I didn't see it.

I know that the mods and admins are always walking a fine line here.

On a somewhat related note - is there a way to update the avatars that are all animae? I like the animated ones, but I'd like to use something different on occassion and the animae is not my cup of tea.

If you're referring to my avatar as well as some other members, there was one that was removed by admins, however, I know that mine is of a sexy young lady, but mine nor others aren't anything that you see in your Victoria's Secret catalogs, or other catalogs that circulate all the time.

I'm sorry that some have an objection to the avatars, but IMHO, I don't see anything that warrants them being removed at this time, but I'm only the voice of one of many.

IMO, you see women like this on the beach. For that matter on tv, too. No problem here.

I agree with Steph, SF and Bonnie on this issue. Women on the beach have less on than in these avatars. lol.

Stormsfury...how'd you get my picture as your avatar?

Lindaloo, you're right. Women on the beach have less on that some of the ladies in the avatars. However, if I wanted to see half naked ladies, I'd go to the beach, not to a weather board.
Like I said in my original post, I'm not here to offend anyone or to try to start trouble. It's just my opinion that pics of half naked ladies or men, for that matter, have no place on a family oriented weather board. Kids see enough of that crap on TV.
Again, this is just my opinion. I'm not trying to start problems. I think this is the best weather board on the net and I enjoy reading the posts.

Stormsfury,

You're right. She's just as dressed as most in some catalogs. But there aren't any of those type of catalogs at my house.

Guess I'm just an old fashioned guy who had much rather see a lady FULLY clothed than I had one that looks like a cheap 2 bit ......

Again, I'll say that I didn't start this thread to offend anyone or to try to start trouble. It's a free country and if you guys feel like you should keep the avatars, it's really not my business. But I will say this much. I find it offensive to come to a weather board that is supposed to be family oriented and find pictures of half naked women when I try to read a post. I guess it wouldn't be quite as bad if it were just me that sits here and reads the posts, but my 9 yr old son also reads along with me more often than not and I'd rather him not be exposed to such.
I suppose I could stop coming here, but I don't know of any other board that comes half way close to being as good as this one.
Again, SF, I'm not trying to offend you or to cause problems. I just wish you guys would use less provocative avatars so that kids wouldn't have to see that stuff...they see enough of it on tv.

Tim, go to your profile and change the board style to subRebel. It turns off all avatars. It loads faster too. I'd suggest that as a solution. I use it at work for stealth S2K-ing.

It took me about 3 tries to get the subrebel to "take" though. That lord of the rings thing really wanted to get into my profile. I think Marshall has it rigged.

Hopefully that will be a satisfactory solution to this controversy.

Here at S2K there's something for everyone.

As long as it's OK with the mods and admins then it's fine with me. Like I said, I'm far from a prude, and could probably be arrested for some of the stuff that's on my hard drive. I was thinking that maybe there was a little "one-upsmanship" with some of the avatars that was maybe getting a little out of hand.

I was fine with yours SF, but there was a couple of others that were pushing it a little bit.

If I can make one suggestion, Tim... if you switch your text to SubRebel you won't see any avatars or sigs.

Tim, I can understand where your coming from totaly.. We parents do like to keep our childs eyes from seeing things we dont find appropriate.. Its what papa's do.. I did notice some took down the avatars.. I do agree there not offensive, but again do totaly understand where you are coming from..

How about this for a fix to this "problem" Tim.. You can go into your profile and selcet the template titled "subrebel".. It is a neat template we have here and it is set up to NOT show avatars.. So this should solve any issues you would have.. You will still be able to surf the board, and the avatars will not show for you, but will still show for other members who choose to be on a template that does show them :-)

just simply hit the link above that says "profile" then scroll to the bottom where it says "board style" hit the drop down box, then select "sub rebel" then scroll down and hit submit :-) and viola.. Your all set. If you need any help please just let me know.

Thanks for voicing your concerns and I hope this resolution is suitable for you :-)

Thanks,
Chad

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll do that. Again, I hope I didn't offend anyone with my opinion.
