Wasn't around too much yesterday, after my 0550 post, we got called on a search. 2 victims, female, male....were driving on Apache Road 340-A, when their SUV slide off a 30 cliff at 0130 hrs., she managed to climb back up the cliff, walk over 6.4 miles to State Rt. 73 and flagged down a passing motorist, we received the call at 0640, made it to the scene at 0750, the female subject said her boyfriend was trapped inside the SUV. We drove as far as we could (mud was up to the doors on the Ram  ), found the male subject gone.....we tracked Macy and Sweetz, found his footprints but no one. The Apache Police dispatched the DPS Ranger 2 helicopter...the male subject was found 5.8 miles from the crash site, alive, walking (limping) down the road 8-) Talk about a COLD day.....man it was COLD, wind chills in the -0 range! This makes 5 LIVE recoverys in 4 months for the "Apache K9 SAR" Unit 8-) 8-) 8-)

BTW Steve, don't know if you saw us on tv last night, News Channel 3, KPHO TV 5 from Phoenix was there, we were the ones in the back ground standing near the bon fire! I was the Handsome one waving "LOL!"

Indeed it is, we've never *knocks on wood* had a cadavar recovery....don't know if I could handle finding a dead person, especially a child...that's why when the call comes in for a search and we find out it's a child, not a SECOND is wasted, we drop EVERYTHING we are doing and RUN!

Congratulations Dennis and Michelle. You guys are the best!!!! ((Hugs))

Hey I think I saw that news coverage here in the Burgh. You guys were the ones by the bonfire. One suggestion, no matter how much you hate it, never, never use your pitching wedge to roast hot dogs!!!!! The metal is bad for your health.

I do envy you and MEE-chelle, Dennis...my record is 29 "finds", no "saves" (all SAR missions seeking downed light planes and two flood searches). And without dogs.

I can't even imagine Bill  We go into these searches HOPING that they will be a RESCUE mission, not a RECOVERY mission.....it's in the back of our minds driving, hiking into a search area. During the briefings at the CCMP before the searches, they, as you know, brief us, giving all the details on the victims, THEN and only then, do you set your state of mind.........
