How many of you will see that annual address in a joint session of congress by the president?I will see it and I can guess that he will have an upbeat speech due to the elections comming up.The main themes of this years speech will be Iraq, the war on terror, the US economy, medicare, and other important issues.

The State of the Union Address hasn't been mentioned as much too much because of the attention the Iowa Caucus (and the New Hampshire Primary) are getting.
The "Address" usually takes place the last Tuesday in January, but the New Hampshire Primary is the 27th. I assume that is why President Bush is going to give it this Tuesday, the 20th.

Iowa is over so the spotlight will be for the Bush speech. It is a great political move for the republicans to steel the news from the primarys that the democrats are having.

The media is taking credit for the Kerry win. LOL!! Especially ABC. I about fell out of my chair when the leftist Peter Jennings was taking the credit last night. What a hoot.

i agree. you wonder what the point of congress is. dont we have enough laws already. lol!!
i am looking for several things in bush's speech.
will he propose even more spending?
will he cut anything in govt?
FORCEFULLY demand tax cuts be made permanent
ss privitization
school vouchers
this is his chance to give his base a reason to come out and vote for him. it is very soft right now

I see no point in Congress either. They are paid for nothing. Let the President be the President.

If you let the President be the President and do away with Congress, then you are basically allowing a dictatorship. Congress is there for the checks and balances.

It's a "joint" session (suck it in, hold it...blow out slowly, inhale excess through the nose)? Heavy $#!+, man...

Can't do away with Congress because then you'd have to do away with the State of the Union address.

The Constitution says that the President is supposed to address Congress once a year in regards to the state of the union. We just get lucky enough to see it now thanks to broadcast media.
Trivia -- when was the only time in history (so far) that the SOTU address was postponed?

I seem to remember that it was postopned in 1986 after the Challenger accident. Am I right?
