A blackhawk helicopter is missing from Fort Drum in New York. 15 soldiers possibly on board. That's all I know at this time.

Say a prayer!

Damnit that sucks, but seems like with all the buzzing going on all over the world it would happen sooner or later. I hope no one was killed, but I have a feeling this "Black Hawk Down" will have casualties.

An Army assault helicopter carrying nine soldiers crashed Tuesday onto Fort Drum in upstate New York. “Multiple injuries” were reported, but base officials said that no one was known to have died and that at least one soldier walked away from the crash.

That Blackhawk is a pretty tough bird as long as you don't fly it into a mountain...

Sometimes I forget that one of our nations major military installations is just down the road a-ways from my neck of the woods. It's sad to think that it takes an event like this to keep me mindful of that...

My prayers are with all of them and their families.

I'm hoping to find out more about this over the next few days from my local sources... and I'll let you know if there are any new updates besides what you see on the news...

"The first call I got was that it was missing. It just disappeared," Hilferty said. He said he believed the aircraft was on a training mission with at least one other helicopter, perhaps two.

Maj. Daniel Bohr at Fort Drum said the aircraft last made radio contact shortly before 2 p.m. Rescue crew located the crash site at about 3:30 p.m.

Greg Burnelle, a Jefferson County emergency management official, said the helicopter crashed between the tiny towns of Antwerp and Philadelphia. Burnelle said there were "critical injured people."

Hilferty said at least one soldier was spotted walking away from the wreckage. Two soldiers were being taken to Samaritan Hospital and a third was en route to the hospital, spokeswoman Krista Kittle said.

nystate on the greetings forum had said this:

I am sad to report that today an Army helicopter crashed about 10 miles from my home. 11 people were killed and 2 are in critical condition. My condolences go out to the families of those lost and injured.
