Reliant Stadium in Houston, scene of this years Super Bowl went into "lockdown" mode on Thursday and will remain that way until after the Super Bowl on February 1st. Access control is in place across the entire property. U.S. Customs officials are now handling all truck deliveries to the stadium. They have set up a magnetometer like those used at the airports that all vehicles have to drive through. Each one is xrayed and searched. this will remain in effect 24/7 till after the game.
Glad to know they have clamped it down!! I was very worried about the multitude of possiblilities of getting something into the stadium early that could be detonated remotely. This will at least make it a lot tougher.

Yeah David, that's good to hear! Let's just pray nothing got in there BEFORE the lockdown started.
Honestly, I think there where will be plenty of security and everyone will be completely safe.
I'd be more worried about a huge gathering that didn't get quite so much publicity...and security.

Why do you think I stay home and watch the Super Bowl Games from the TV (If my mom wanted to watch them)?

Is it a full dome or just a partial one?

I found the information below on this website (about Reliant Stadium) ----->
"Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission Metrodome: Next Generation of Sports Facilities"
The roof is made of a Teflon-coated fabric instead of the usual steel that other retractable roofs are created from. The fabric allows light in, even when the roof is closed, giving the stadium a more open-air feel. More than half of the building consists of glass, which further creates an outdoors atmosphere.

Thanks for the link Tom. Now I don't have a good feeling about the superbowl.

Why? Do you think there could be another Black Sunday or a Sum of all Fears?

The last thing we need is mass hysteria. Care to back up why you feel this way?
Oh, and the Superbowl will get along FINE. There will be no attacks...it will be too obvious. Mark my words.

I definitely do not see anything! A terrorist trying the Superbowl would be just like a terrorist standing up in an airplane in mid-flight yelling "GUN" or "BOMB". They would not be standing very long.
They would have better luck at a high school basketball game.

You're welcome, 980. Hopefully it was better than nothing. The information above (that I found) seemed at least somewhat the answer to your questions.

Beer is thinking about the picture of the stadium we were talking about not too long ago.

I was thinking that a picture post on a Jihad message board looked like Reliant stadium but I had to go find the picture again. It might be it on the Jihad picture but it is a small image and a different angle.
OtherHD is right, the superbowl will be fine. Has anyone heard if they will have air defence in place near the stadium?
NEWeatherguy the superbowl would be very high on a terrorist list and DHS knows it and hopefully has all the bases covered. An attack at the superbow would be a live commercial for Al Queida to recruit and show the world of their power. Here are the two pictures if you are interested.

Last I heard full air defense is in place at least that weekend. Definitely a no fly zone over that area of town.
Scary also is breaking news we have here this am. A security guard was shot and killed during the night when he tried to question a person near the BASF chemical plant near Freeport, TX(S of Houston) His description of the person who was "taking pictures of the lights" is the kicker here. Apparently where he was and the way he was dressed made it difficult to get a good description, but the voice was that of a possibly Middle Eastern man. I'll report more as it becomes available. Federal authorities have been notified and are involved.

Stooge, I don't know about you. But the reason I stay home and watch it on TV is because I don't have the dough to shell out for Super Bowl tix.
Yup, David. I just switched over to channel 2 to catch the news after reading Tano's post. They didn't say anything new except to add that they also concerned because he was looking towards the Port when he was talking about taking pictures. So they have alert the Coast Guard also.

I went to a Houston news web sight and cannot find anything about this. You know they are thinking about this as a possible attack though, that many people at once and all.

Doesn't look like he's dead!
Pretty dang freaky though!!!
ABC13 Eyewitness News
(1/24/04 - FREEPORT, TX) — A security guard at an ammonia plant in Freeport was shot Saturday morning after checking out a suspicious vehicle.
A guard on patrol at the BASF plant noticed a pick-up truck parked where he didn't think it should be. He went to investigate and questioned the man in the truck.
That's when that man pulled a gun and fired. The guard ducked. The bullet hit him in the shoulder.
The description of the suspect prompted Freeport police to contact homeland security, theFBI and DPS. The suspect sped off in a white pick-up truck with a black stripe.
Freeeport police searched the area with a canine unit. That dog found gun power on the scene and the bullet that was used in the shooting.
The guard was shot through the shoulder. He's in Brazosport Hospital.

Good catch on the story vbhoutex. How far is Reliant stadium from the port?

Reliant stadium is about 45 miles NNE of the port.
I was sure they said he was dead on the news. Guess I was wrong and am sure glad I was!!
I may be a worry wort but I have had a bad feeling about the Super Bowl and our dozens of chemical and petroleum product plants for a long time. I have read that we are one of the prime targets being talked about in the latest wave of chatter they picked up a couple weeks ago. I do hope the no fly is fully in force and they have plenty of air power available for intercept. I won't be anywhere near the stadium(live about 10 mi NW of it)but the impact of a hit on a stadium with 70,000+ in it at the biggest sports event in the US sure sounds like a juicy target to me for those COWARDS!! The impact on this city would be devastating and I am not talking football or saving face. We have the best medical center in the world here and there is no way we could handle the casualties from a direct attack of any proportion on that stadium. Guess all I can do is pray and watch and be ready to help if needed. Probably nothing will happen but like I said I have had it on my mind a lot.
