Three men were in the custody of city police today after allegedly robbing a Harford Road Dunkin' Donuts store early this morning and leaving an alert patrol officer a tell-tale clue: tracks in the snow.

The three armed and masked men entered the doughnut shop at Harford Road and Gibbons Avenue about 2 a.m. and demanded money, said Detective Donny Moses, a city police spokesman. They were given the money from two cash registers, he said, before the men fled.

When a police officer was called and heard what had happened, he decided to follow footprints left in the snow, which led to a home at 3303 Gibbons Ave. He called for backup, and soon, two of the three suspects gave up, Moses said. A third suspect barricaded himself inside the home, finally giving up at 7:30 this morning, he said.

"Thank God it was snowing," Moses said. Following the suspects' footprints in the snow was "pretty good police work. Easy, but pretty good."

No one was injured in the incident, Moses said. The suspects' identities were not immediately available, but Moses said they would likely be charged with armed robbery and handgun violations.
