My nephew is really home now!
One final topic from me - my nephew, a Sgt. with the 101st Airborne, touched down at Ft. Campbell this past Saturday. He came in a few days early! Just got the word.....I'm really glad he and his wife could take some quiet time before word went out. I'm sure they'll be getting lots of calls now. I baked his xmas cookies and caramel popcorn this past Friday night. Something told me to start it early.....LOL He should get it tomorrow. That is by far the best care package I sent to him. The same Postal clerk waited on me for nearly every package I sent to Iraq. When I walked up to the counter, I said just look at this address!!!! He smiled, I smiled, I began tearing up then and there. Thanks to everyone for your continued prayers this past year. I really appreciate it! More than words can express. I can now breathe a little easier knowing he's on US soil again. Crying tears of joy, relief, happiness as I type....
Edit....let me add a copy of his last email to all of us from Iraq, I posted it the other day, but then deleted it. Sounds silly, but I was almost afraid to jinx things by getting too excited, anything could have happened on the way home. Here it is:

Mary...you know how I feel about his contribution. I don't know if folks will appreciate it as they should. Seems that many hang their appreciation for the troops on the decision to go to war in the first place. If they hate the war, then they have a hard time forgiving those young guys who are risking it all!
We're in an extended time of conflict here in the US. Not something that ends when our kids come home. But I hold the highest level of appreciation to Kris.
I have never, ever forgotten the feeling of being 24, being 9,000 miles from home, and hearing those bullets pass so close I could hear them sing.

Bill - I will show him this site or give him the URL. Wait you have to be a member to read don't you....oh well, somehow I'll tell him. Their computer is down anyway. Just as well, he has to report to work is less than 3 days (on base though, short drive from their apartment). I am hoping he and his wife Kara, my niece, can find some quiet time. He qualifies for a long break in March. I imagine that's when they'll travel up to Cincinnati and NYC, where he grew up. Steve - I agree, some people focus on whether we should be in Iraq or not. Not the fact that we have young men and women fighting right now because they decided to join the Armed Forces. We still need to support them! The things Kris has described to us, oh my, I could start another topic. He said they all just wanted to cry when they first got to Baghdad and/or Iraq. To witness firsthand the conditions people and families had to live in, was very shocking to see. No indoor plumbing, dirt floors in houses. And then of course later they took over palaces and saw how Saddam and his men were living it up. That's why he wants us all to really appreciate the fact that we are US citizens and live in the greatest country on earth. I think he's gotten thru to most of us. Well, thanks again everyone for you well wishes - they mean so much to me!
