Student Tries To Enter Dallas School With Handgun

FORT WORTH, Texas -- A student reportedly brought a .25 caliber handgun with him as he tried to enter a Dallas middle school Wednesday morning.

Dallas Independent School District spokesperson Donnie Claxton confirms the 14-year-old entered Seagoville Middle School in the 900 block of N Woody Road with the gun, which was caught by the school's metal detector.

Seagoville students were not evacuated.

Claxton says the 14-year-old is in police custody.

The Dallas Morning News wrote:DALLAS, Texas - A teenager who tried to carry an unloaded handgun into school was detained Wednesday by police, officials said.

Classes continued as usual on the campus of Seagoville Middle School, which is part of the Dallas public school district.

The .25-caliber weapon was discovered early Wednesday after a metal detector went off as the 14-year-old boy entered the school, district spokesman Donnie Claxton said.

The school has 762 students.

There are just way too many kids with guns. Very sad.
