I think if there is a chance of religion conflicting with a soldiers serving in a particular area, that the COs should be aware of that and move people around. I don't think what he did was right, but should we expect someone who is strongly religious, no matter what his beliefs system, to go and kill members of his religion? No, he should have asked to be restationed or whatever. He didn't. He was wrong, but his superiors should maybe have been aware of the chances too, and restationed him.

They should station all muslim soldiers in Korea or someplace like that. Anywhere but the middle east.

While that sounds good it's not practical. A soldier swears to perform all duties assigned and to defend the US against all enemies "foreign and domestic". If he's guilty of the charges he should face treason. What he was apparently willing to do was to compromise the safety of his fellow soldiers. :-(
