The controversial owner that the reds had for many years died today at 75.I know that some members here from that area like Miss Mary so they must be very sad to learn about this news.

My folks bought a Buick from her car dealership in the late 1960s.

Yes, she was quite a character in the world of sports for sure!

Well, it is sad she died today. And yes she was quite the character Eric. I will keep what my daughter said when she heard MS died. It wasn't pretty. You see MS was a little racist, a little opinionated, a little wacky but she was also from another era. So people tended to look the other way when she was quoted once again for saying something she shouldn't have. The worst thing she ever said was that Hitler started out good but then he went too far. Yes, she said those words and nearly every Cincinnatian cringed when we heard that.

So consequently, I wasn't very impressed with her. Sorry if that offends anyone here, but it's how I feel.

PS - quick edit, seems a lot of fans are posting comments and condolences on a local news website. So maybe I wasn't being very generous in my comments. Yes she was controversial but a good woman deep down. No one can argue, she loved the Reds 100%.

I liked Marge Schott as well. She always kept baseball interesting, even if her actions and comments were off key

Marge Schott passed on today and didn't John McSherry.. the former MLB umpire die on Opening Day while doing a Reds game..?

John - sadly, yes he did. And once again Marge publicly said some terrible things that day. I will try to find links for those interviews. She showed little remorse that day for his death and seemed more concerned that the game had to be delayed and if I remember correctly ultimately postponed.

There were times as a #1. A born and bred Cincinnatian and #2. A die hard Reds fan, you were just so embarrassed to have Marge Schott as a Reds owner. I was actually relieved when Carl Lindner took over.

I have a brief Marge Schott story I would like to share. When I was about 10 or 11 years old a woman pulled in our driveway to turn around and got stuck in the culvert next to the driveway. She came to the door and asked if she could use our phone ( no cell phones back then ) to call " her " tow truck driver to pull her car out. I let her in to use the phone and I remember my mom chatted with her for a while then she used the phone.
She went back out to her car, got in the trunk, and walked back to the house with a box of candy and christmas cookies for us. I didn't understand at the time who this lady was but it was Marge Schott, she was at a neighbor's house down the street for a Christmas party. Just wanted to share that with everyone since we had a good experience with her, one which I will never forget.

Wow Steve, interesting story indeed. Glad you had a good experience with someone who some people didn't think so, by her words.
