'Raymond' to Return for Shortened Final Season

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) - It's finally come down to the money part of the equation for the fate of CBS' "Everybody Loves Raymond."

Sources say that series creator Phil Rosenthal and star Ray Romano have agreed to keep at it for a ninth season, albeit at less than a full 22-episode order. The trick now is whether CBS can work out new salary deals at shortened-season rates for Romano, who currently ranks as primetime's highest-paid star at nearly $2 million per episode, and co-stars Patricia Heaton, Brad Garrett, Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts.

Speaking to reporters Tuesday about CBS' February sweep performance, CBS chief Leslie Moonves would only say that he's "very guardedly optimistic" that the network's top-rated sitcom will be back next season.

wx247 - me too! I don't like the show either. But the difference between us is, I have an opinion! Oh yeah I do....but I'll respect ELR fans and keep it to myself.

I actually wanted to post - yawn. LOL

I absolutely LOVE Everybody Loves Raymond and will be very sad to see it go.
It's one of the few shows that cracks me up. It's hilarious and I see so many similiarities to real life. lol

A definite MUST SEE TV for me!

I didn't like prior seasons of the show that much, but I was very impressed with this seasons' work. I think a final shortened season is a good idea. Let it go out on top!

I've heard it was one of the few cleanest sitcoms on today. Ray Romano's wife on the show (Patricia Heaton) is Catholic in real life, too.

I watch next to nothing for sitcom TV, EXCEPT for this show. As Kelly said...this show is as close to real life as it gets. Ray always wants sex, Debra never does (or pretends she doesn't). Plus she nags something awful...but Ray deserves a lot of it too...

Marie is the classic nosey Outlaw never missing a chance to make her Daugter-In-Law look less than adequate in any way.

Frank says whatever he feels like saying. Great one-liners..

Robert is the typical first born forgotten sibling.

I've never seen a Raymond episode. I've seen part of one, and it was cute.

I never could watch it. Just to hear Ray talk... :o He's like a male version of Janice from Friends.

Can't imagine Robert being "shortened." For that matter, can't imagine Patricia Heaton shortened either.

I'll miss the show, too. Good sitcoms don't come around very often.
