Got an email today from lifelong tornado historian Tom Grazulis who seems excited about a new tornado special airing on PBS on March 30th. Called "The Hunt for the Supertwister" it is a long overdue update on the state of warning capability and other aspects of tornado detection and tornadoes themselves.

I've known Tom and his work for many years (I'm one of the lucky ones to have a copy of his complete published catalog of Significant Tornadoes), and so when Tom seems enthusiastic about a tornado program, we should certainly be too.

By the way...reprint and updates of his catalog of tornadoes is still in the works...so he says don't despair...just be very very patient if your hoping for a copy someday.

It is bigger than many metro phone books....

Just thought you should know.

Thank you very much, Steve! :) I'll mark that on my calendar for viewing from my (soon to be) N. Raleigh apartment!

Sounds cool! I'll definitely be looking out for it.

Funny that you mentioned his book, Significant Tornadoes... not to sound weenieish but I always wondered how I could get a copy. I've looked for copies in bookstores, but I'm guessing they have to be special ordered?

There's a long story on Tom Grazulis publication of Significant Tornadoes. When it was first printed, it also had an amended and revised update. That must have been about 1996. He underestimated the demand for it, so they were gone before he knew it....even at about $90 or so which I remember being the price.

He was scheduling a new printing and had some technical problems, so it is once again awaiting a lot of prep work first.

They really are hard to find.

Thanks! I don't know if I'll be home, so I'll definitely set the timer to record it. :)
