When you ask someone how they are and they reply, "Fair to Midland", have you ever wondered where this saying comes from? Fair to Midland is a term used for the quality of cotton. Anymore?

Dennis, I thought it was "fair to middling" which sort of makes sense.
Slang? Standard phrase in Philly - instead of "hello," its "How ya doin?" - no answer required. If you answer "good" people look at you like you're strange.
