Speaking of The Dixie Chicks....Fans Speak Out!
Posted: Mon Mar 17, 2003 2:17 pm
Or shall I say ex-fans. I knew that fans were mad but I didn't realize just how mad!
Here's some of the comments submitted to the radio station KSCS 96.3 in Arlington, Texas near Dallas. The link is at the bottom if you want to read them all.
There's a lot more. And yes, there were a few people who didn't slam them. I put a couple of them on here. Here's the link if you want to see all of them.

Well, here's my freedom of speech! I will take ALL of my Dixie Chicks cd's and trade them all for one REAL TEXAS artist. And never again will I go to a d/c concert; you will not earn a dime from this PROUD TEXAN! I am ashamed that the Dixie Chicks are from TEXAS. They are definitely not true TEXAN'S!
Susie,
Carrollton
Natalie, another great thing about living in the Great State of Texas is the right to trash your cd's and never spend a dime on more of them. By the way, my 12 year old daughter decided she did not want to go to your concert here. We shredded the 4 tickets. Only wished we wouldn’t have bought them now. Wow I am so embarrassed by you right now I cant describe it. Stay in Europe, y’all belong together...
Glenn,
Sachse
While we do have free speech, it comes with responsibility. The idea of insulting our President while in another country, on top of everything else, makes me ashamed to have been a Dixie Chicks fan. I will agree you have the right to free speech -- but to declare your shame for our leader is absolutely unforgivable. Whether or not you are "for" this possible war in Iraq, you are an AMERICAN first. Mr. Bush is our President; we owe him respect. It is not ours to judge and point fingers. We need to support him, our troops and this blessed country. The Dixie Chicks CDs and the tickets to the show are going in the trash.
Chris,
Wylie
I interviewed the Chicks back in the early 90's when they were playing VFW halls. As far as I’m concerned, after that comment, they couldn't get a gig at the VFW again. I agree, one of the blessings of this country is to have the freedom of speech, but also as an American, to slap down our President, especially in another country is idiotic. How dare she… If the chicks come into my studio again, I'm out the door. OOPS, I have one of their songs coming up in a few minutes. With the click of a mouse, it's been replaced with some George Strait.
Betsy,
Omaha
Girls I love your singing but your political views stink!!!! You are entitled to your opinion but there is no reason to be insulting. I am more proud of our President than ever before. He brings things to the office that weren't there before, namely integrity, strength, and conviction. Ashamed of George W.????? No way in hell!
Tiffany,
Rowlett
You have your right to think whatever you like. I have my right to dispose of your CDs, never attend a concert again, and change the station whenever a song of yours comes on the radio. Do you believe you are more informed than our President? Get over yourself!
Jennifer,
Ex-Dixie Chick Fan,
Richardson
With fame comes great responsibility. Both in actions and words. What you said went beyond opinion, it was an attack.
William,
Irving
Hope you can find another line of work. I'm no longer a fan.
Rick,
Dallas
If I hear the Dixie Chicks again, I'm changing the channel! I'm disgusted with them. Stay overseas.
Michael,
Dallas
You have a right to your opinion, as do I. I also have the right to turn off any radio station that plays your music for the remainder of that day. I think that if Saddam could set off a nuclear devise in Times Square tomorrow he would do it in an instant. Remember 9-11.
Terrence,
Bedford
You ladies are losing fans as fast as your lips can move. Get your butts back in Texas and quit traveling. Stay home long enough to get your feet back on the ground and out of your mouths.
Gary,
Krum
I think the President's job is a little bit more taxing on him than your jobs are on you. After hearing your comments, I'm personally ashamed to say you three got your start in Dallas. Stay in England!!!!!!!!
Scott,
Garland
Watch what you say. A lot of your former fans are from Texas.
Kent,
Mansfield
You know I was just now beginning to like them. Now they have made my mind up, I don't care for them. They can not be TRUE TEXAN!!! Maybe they need to look at footage from 9-11, listen to Toby Keith, Alan Jackson, Charlie Daniels and all the rest of us that really don't want a 9-11 repeat.
Betty,
Lewisville
My son is in the United States Air Force and has a front row seat for the war in Iraq. He would totally disagree with the Dixie Chicks and I am sure he would trade places with any one of them. He totally supports our president and is proud to be A Texan along with Bush. Maybe one of the Dixie Chicks would like to trade places with him for a while and then see what our soldiers are doing to protect them. If we do nothing about Saddam and terrorism, then the Dixie Chicks may not be able to go on stage again in fear of a terrorist threat. Easy for them to speak about something they know nothing about from their safe and cozy home, which is given to them and protected by our president and our armed forces.
Ken,
Trophy Club
It's time Natalie Maines keep her wide open mouth shut. Perhaps the wide open spaces represents the air between her ears. My wife and I are extremely ashamed of her. Hey, Natalie, check your personal website. Last night the vote was so strong against you that the website had to be shut down to new comments. We are telling our station. No more Dixie Chicks music!!!!
David,
Bedford
To talk against your country or President to the media while in another country is Un-American. I'm ashamed you come from America. I will never listen or buy another Dixie Chicks song again!
Reed,
Grand Prairie
Play Darryl Worley's "Have you Forgotten" 24/7
Mike,
Dallas
I'm only 16 and I totally agree with you. The other day I went to try and get my license, well let's just say that didn't work out to well. Mostly because of the law "President" Bush helped pass when he was governor of Texas. I know this has nothing to do with what your mostly ashamed of about him, but it made me mad. Some day I promise my opinion will count for something!
Cristy,
Red Oak
See if you can team up with Jane Fonda for a concert in Iraq in about two weeks. I wish you could have seen the disappointment in my two daughters eyes when I told them what you said. I didn't explain or comment just relayed your message. You broke their hearts. I hope your careers go well for you, and this doesn't hurt too much. Maybe someday you will find it in your heart to meet with the president and apologize face to face. Until then, I will not be listening to anymore of your music. My heart is heavy and I am sad for you.
Rick,
Cedar Hill
(from the Texas George W. Bush is from)
The Dixie Chicks just lost a long time fan. I will not buy any more of their records or listen to any of music because of this statement. I will also tell all my friends.
John,
Eugene
My 4 yr. old daughter knows all the words to "Goodbye Earl" and she loves to listen to your CD's. However, she will never listen to it again, nor will I. We will not support the Dixie Chicks in any way. I do not understand what all of you "anti-war" people think we should do. Are we supposed to sit back and wait for Saddam use everything that he has hidden on our wonderful country? I want a safe future for my daughter and I, for one, could not be prouder that our President is from our great state.
Amy,
Waco
My wife loved your music, till she read the article quoting Natalie Maines. My wife proceeded to break all Dixie Chick C.D.'s she owned and vowed to not listen to your music again. It may not mean much to you, but she and all of her friends will not support your music in the future. I think this is one time when the "fame" went to your head and you've lost touch with reality.
Jeff,
Coldspring
It's a sad day for me. I've loved the chicks ever since they had their first hit. I will NEVER again purchase a cd or any other Dixie Chicks related item. I am very ashamed of the statements recently released. You are in the entertainment business. Your opinion (along with Sheryl Crow's) is not more valuable because it is louder. You should not use your position with the media to try to inform others because it is obvious that you are misinformed yourself. I find it hard to believe that anyone would think that "talking" things over would resolve ANY problems in the Middle East. It's gone way beyond talking. The majority of the U.S. DOES NOT agree with you. The President has done the best he can with what he has been given. I'm VERY ashamed of the Dixie Chicks and what they allegedly represent.
Jamie,
Allen
Weeellll, we now know for sure that Chicks is short for CHICKENS!! I've seen barnyard animals act better than you. If you are so ashamed of the President of this country perhaps you should keep your little chicken self in England. And by the way why don't you call Martin Sheen, the Baldwin brothers & some of their buddies and see if they would like to join you!! I will be changing the station when your songs are played from now on and I will NEVER buy one of your recordings and I hope there are a lot more folks who will do the same.
Annette,
Arlington
Dixie chicks lost a fan today.
Mike,
Kingsville
Regardless of your political views, it is an honor to be the home state of the President of the USA. I'm now ashamed I spent over $300 on tickets to see your concert this summer. I appreciate your right to your opinion and views, but the entertainment industry should keep their opinions to themselves and do what we pay for, ENTERTAINMENT!
Matt,
Murphy
You get paid millions when your mouth opens and you sing your songs. Please, stick to singing. When I listen to your wonderful music, I like to imagine that you are smart and strong. You spend millions to look that way in videos and appearances and so on. You open your mouth and waste all that time and money...
James,
Dallas
It is one thing to voice your views here in the states but it is shameful to do so overseas. Very Low class.
Jay,
McKinney
To: Natalie Maines Fonda. Just a bit of advice, "Delta is ready when you are" and "IH35 runs both ways". You did the State of Texas an injustice with your comment and I hope you like the friends you made overseas. I'm ashamed that you're a Texan and glad I didn't waste my money on tickets to your concert. You'll be receiving my CD's in the mail shortly. Another fan lost.
Debbie,
Lewisville
I completely understand Natalie's position. President Bush is rushing into war without taking into consideration the innocent American and Iraqi lives that will be lost for no certain outcome.
Corinne,
Dallas
I believe they are entitled to their opinion. But I'm entitled to mine as well. Since I disagree so strongly with their views, I will no longer buy or listen to their music. This is a real disappointment to me as I am a huge fan. The fans made the Dixie Chicks and we can break them. I think anyone who disagrees with their views should join me in boycotting.
Christie,
Garland
All three of you are unbelievably talented and I'm a big fan. I'm saddened now to see that Natalie is as ignorant as she is vocally blessed. It always amazes me that stardom seems to bring with it the notion that one's opinion on world issues matters to fans. Stick to what you do so well!!
Chad,
Venus
You should be proud of our President. I will never buy another Dixie CD. Now when your songs come on KSCS, I turn the sound down… All I can say is you are lucky that KSCS will not let us say nasty words, cause I have a few for you.
Wanda,
Lancaster
None of us know enough about what is going on to be able to know whether or not we should go to war. Thank goodness "W" has the means to find out information from our intelligence agencies and he doesn't decide to go to war or not based on our opinions. I'm not a republican but I am still proud that "W" is from Texas and lives near Baylor University, where I went to college.
Emily,
Arlington
If you are going to speak on an issue PLEASE know the facts. Your comment was out of line, though you are free to make it. A lot of great men and women died to make this country what it is - don't forget that. I'm a huge fan but after that comment, it put your group in a new light for a lot of people. Please think before you speak. Oh, by the way, I'm very proud of George W. Bush and thank God he's from Texas.
James,
Rowlett
She should have the guts to say it on our own soil!
Terry,
Grand Prairie
I am PROUD of our President and PROUD he's from Texas. I think he's doing a wonderful job considering the uncertain times we as a nation are facing. Our President needs all the support he can get... and all the prayers as well. Am I pro-war? NO. I hate the very thought of war, but for the safety of our country and our freedom, I feel it is necessary. Just remember, our President is trying to keep your freedoms from being taken away… I think Darryl Worley said it best, "Have you forgotten?" I haven't. I enjoy your music, but am finding it hard to support you now.
Stacey,
Garland
I will defend your freedom to voice your personal opinion about anything (that's what being an American is all about) but I question your judgment in voicing it, unsolicited, to a crowd just for a reaction. It doesn't matter where the President came from. He is the elected head of our government and deserves our respect, even if we disagree with his current policy. Besides, he's not in this alone. So, did you play "Goodbye Earl" to this crowd? What's the difference between Earl and Saddam? Saddam kills people.
Teri,
Dallas
Yes, innocent lives will be lost if we go to war with Iraq. However, the reason for the war is to prevent even more innocent lives from being lost at the hands of an evil dictator through senseless terrorism. By saying such negative things about our nation's leader while overseas, you are adding to the anti-American sentiment, which is harmful to our citizens and troops. Yes, it is your right to be free to disagree with our government. It is my right to no longer support you financially by buying your albums, concert tickets, and other items. I have been a fan for a long time but will no longer support you because of your lack of American pride.
Tami.

Natalie is an American and has the absolute right to show her ignorance in any way she chooses that is legal. Keep it up Natalie, show America and the world how really uninformed you are.

Justin
