JMO but I can think of a few dozen ways to better explain the meaning of Easter without whipping Peter Cottontail's butt and traumatizing little kids!

Fundamentalists aren't dangerous.

It's the ones who pretend to be Christian, who look down upon and preach in a holier-than-thou manner to those who they claim aren't Christian, and who try to tell people that God hates them, therefore, preventing many from understanding God's love and becoming Christians. Those are the ones who are dangerous IMO.

Umm... my parents belong to an Assembly of God church, and I wouldn't characterize them as dangerous lunatics. They also did not have an Easter play that involved beating rabbits.

Perhaps when making such comments, one should not lump together ultraradicals (kooks, as you would say) like PTC chairman L. Brent Bozell with the vast majority of Pentecostal Christians who are good people, that don't do outrageous stuff like this.

The problem is that the well-publicized lunatics are what you see and therefore, you believe all are like that. Same applies to other groups as well. The calm, quiet ones who stay out of the spotlight make up the majority...but you don't see them, so you make assumptions.

But just to be on the safe side, define your view of a "fundamentalist" please. Are you referring to one who is a strict believer, one who opposes secularism, one who is intolerant, one who is extreme, or what?

There are too many definitions and opinions of a fundie.

The "calm, quiet" ones still ahve ridiculous, backwards, and ignorant beliefs that they can not support without religion-such as denying evolution and insisting that the world is only a few thousand years old, insisting that homosexuality is a "lifestyle choice" and that homosexuals can be "cured," and countless others. Unless there is some branch of Christian fundamentalism where they...um...aren't fundamentalists, I think I am pretty safe in my "assumptions"

Nope, I think you're assuming way too much.

Being raised Baptist, now Assembly of God member, I take your post DT a little offensive, but, what else should I expect. YES...it's a LITTLE bizzare to say the LEAST but to put ALL Chrisitans, in which you didn't come right out and SAY, it's one of your typical, "Read between the lines" post as you are well famous for elsewhere.

Not all Christians are how you say they are...I mean...look at me...I believe in evolution, and I'm a Christian! Granted, I get bashed by other Christians for having "non-Christian beliefs." But then again, I lost my fear of what others think of me a long time ago.
Anyway, don't expect most Christians you find to be like me...most of them are very loud and quite pushy about their beliefs on others. But that's not the majority of the Christian population. I assure you, if you look hard enough, you'll find others like me.

I once realized I was in the wrong church recently when, in the middle of the serman, the preacher got into a kickboxing match with a guy in a hamster suit...
